it is about balance. going totally flat with muted colours looks like shit as does all these horrible glossy/glass looking shit we had about 10 years ago.

Why is it so hard to find apps in unity? They are not organized at all, so if you don't know the specific name of the app good fucking luck.

>>
>>52216717
I don't know.
I have tried to use unity for a couple of months (I like to keep up with what other people might use)
But it is horrible.
The search doesn't really work that well.
Either you turn internet results on and you get bombarded with ads or you disable it and the search gives nothing at all.
It looks like they tried to make it the one search which rules the desktop, but it doesn't give people anything useful.
Compared to something like krunner, synapse or even dmenu, it is just a huge disruptive mess which doesn't give you what you want.

It uses about the same amount of resources of kde or gnome, but it isn't advanced in any way.

The hotkeys are weird to change and sometimes you can't and other times you have to install more software to edit... it is a mess.

give examples, distros crafted for novel users are way more simple than windows imo
>lots of compatibility issues
Issues related to closed formats and APIs made with the sole purpose of lock their users to their products, i wouldn't support or defend that if i were you, i save my documents and other works in open formats and i can just change operative systems at my whim without being limited by compatibility issues, pretty sure that you cannot say the same
>and inefficient
Nah, not even you believe this, most linux distros doesn't run crap in the background or rots over the time, i got fed with windows rotting and needing constant maintenance to keep being responsive, with linux the burden of maintenance is almost inexistent in comparison.
>The ability to customize your UI is available, but Windows users don't b0other because that shit is for autists.
Window's ability to customize the system is very limited without patching system files, also you trying to sell the lack of a feature as a feature because that feature is "for autists" is pretty sad.
>>
>>52218644
>Issues related to closed formats and APIs made with the sole purpose of lock their users to their products
Yes. Compatibility issues.

Most high-quality software or products "lock" their users in because they don't want their competitors to easily steal customers or have access to APIs or drivers that would give them an edge into how the product worked. It's called "being a profitable company"

First of all that's 7, DPI scaling is massively improved on 8.1 and 10.

Second how does keeping 1:1 scaling "defeat the point of 4K"? Not all displays are the same size or intended for the same purpose. Wanting things at the same size but sharper is fine for some users, while wanting far more real-estate at the same size is fine for others.

>The quality of the software is somehow related to locks their users
yeah, nah, there can ex sof

>because they don't want their competitors to easily steal customers
Tell me why, as an user, i should support this and lock myself from having options if i have tho option of not doing it

> or have access to APIs or drivers that would give them an edge into how the product worked.
Common standards are made to protect the consumer and promote competition, most of those standards doesn't require to disclose the implementation, just guarantee compatibility

> It's called "being a profitable company"
Its called "being a shitty company who is shooting its own foot", people can just decide to not use your products and other companies can just decide to not make any agreement of mutual benefit with you, that kind of strategy is a double edged sword and it's success depends on how many money you invest, but in the long run you isolate yourself and you hurt your brand

Installing anything, literally spent hours sometimes trying to install a single program, despite having a guide on how to do it.

I couldn't give 2 shits about the politics of software and business. All I care about is whether shit works.
>Nah, not even you believe this, most linux distros doesn't run crap in the background or rots over the time,
And yet, Windows runs faster with tons more features. Pretty sad.
>Window's ability to customize the system is very limited without patching system files, also you trying to sell the lack of a feature as a feature because that feature is "for autists" is pretty sad.
Except this is the only feature Linux users promote, and people who sacrifice everything just to have a pretty UI are autistic.

correction:
yeah, nah, there can exist high quality software that doesn't locks you, if their software is that good why they need to do that in the first place?

Linux has no shortage of faults, especially as a desktop OS, but package management is the best feature distros have bar none. I have no idea how the best aspect of Linux turned into the worst aspect for you.

OP i'm waiting for you to justify your abomination.
Why can't you set a higher resolution, therefore justifying the waste of space taken by tthe titlebar/menu things. Is there a problem with your driver?

>Installing anything, literally spent hours sometimes trying to install a single program, despite having a guide on how to do it.
Tell this to people that tries to unistall VS for example, both installing and uninstalling programs on windows is pretty bad implemented, they barely has any control on what is installed, look for example how much takes to update the system in comparison with ubuntu, and it's just the system and some microsoft programs. Linux has package managers which takes care about what files are installed, so installing and uninstalling is very fast and clean. On top of that you can add external repositories and takes care of updating the programs that are not part of the distro.

>I couldn't give 2 shits about the politics of software and business. All I care about is whether shit works.
politics? i gave you reasons on why that's a bad thing that affect users directly, literate yourself a bit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monopoly

>And yet, Windows runs faster with tons more features. Pretty sad.
Well, i guess that i can't rewrite your memories to make you think that a bad experience was a good experience right? in that case let's just people try by themselves both and judge by themselves.

>Except this is the only feature Linux users promote, and people who sacrifice everything just to have a pretty UI are autistic.
Except that you're making this up, you don't need to sacrifice anything except when a companies tries to lock you in windows as i discussed previously, and yes the UI can be as pretty as you want, thanks for at least accepting that my non-autistic comrade ;)

Is already impressive that it works with wine, probably you got confused with the 32 and 64 bit part of the instruction
>unless that was changed SESE only works with the 64bit server, wine can only run the 32bit server since there is no dotnet40 or dotnet45 64bit version

Finally someone who gets it.
Minimalism is nice at first but it becomes boring really fast and if everything is minimalistic then it's harder to distinguish elements from each other.

Why are most ubuntufags stuck with a 1366x768 or 1280x1024 with a generic, "free" driver for all nvidia chips forced over the official one that's nonfree to begin with?

How does it makes you feel, also, to have your OS looking just exactly like MacOS and Windows now?

Why are you a hipster who enjoy minimalism?

Where do you get this or how what you describe is related to ubuntu?

>How does it makes you feel, also, to have your OS looking just exactly like MacOS and Windows now?
People can make most DEs whatever they want because they have good customization options, most of those themes are made by a lot of different people around the world and you can pick whatever suits you.

>Why are you a hipster who enjoy minimalism?
How do you relate not caring a lot for having a high resolution with being a hipster or with minimalism

Actually it's Ubuntu Server. I did a base install and installed all my packages from the ground up. Unless they put it in the kernel there's no spyware on my system.
