How come signal intrusions like the Max Headroom Incident don't happen more often?

It seems like in an age of precocious attentionseekers you would get kids pulling this shit all the time, but it only happens once every few years as far as I can tell. Why is this?

We don't use analog tv anymore
>>
It's far easier for skiddies to ddos a site for a few hours as happened to the bbc the other day.

What about the last three incidents mentioned in this article?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadcast_signal_intrusion#Satellite_feed_intrusions

These were all post 2007 or so, and while some were physical tampering (spliced wires, camera replacement), others seem not to be.

How were they done?

Likely inside jobs. Or some 1337 hax.

They probably encrypt uplinks these days.
You can still jam shit with the right equipment.

so what?

reminds me of, at an apartment i had an old VCR that came with an RF modulator where you could inject a signal on a building's antenna network. turns out a quarter of the city was affected by some metal vids and porn i've broadcasted. and never been found since i only fuck the waves during political propaganda or lobotomizing shows.

now, there are DVB-T modulators but i wonder how hard it would be to mash a signal over an existing channel. also here things will slowly upgrade from mpeg2 to mpeg4, better get ready.

yes for the max headroom exploit, it was someone who had access to the main transmissions, not someone broadcasting independently.

If the cable headend for the region got broken into and tampered with then it could happen. most TV is digital now. and the facilities are secured... also someone would have to be really knowledgeable about the cable hardware being used in the facility which I doubt many people are.

You deserve a medal for this.

pic related is a headend in a plywood shack that serves an entire rural city. Only some really remote areas would be this vulnerable...

Idk much about cable tv.
Is the link between the tv company and the consumer done 100% via cables?

heh. i'm surprised it doesn't happen much more. 'm more an electronician than a PC hacker, and i've been using an old amplifier designed to help my antenna at home getting some signal from the swiss TSR1 and TSR2 channels, they had decent movies and stuff.
so, when i was a student i took this amp with me, hooking it on the VCR on my laptop and checked if it worked.
put some Divx movie, adjusted it on the same frequency as TF1, until i get a perfect image on my dorm's TV. with a T-connector, i just plugged the output to the amp and then the wall socket, move on the cafeteria, and yep it works perfectly.
well, it worked, now it's all on DVB but it was fun, no one around understood what was going on.

when you do that, don't tell anyone about it. even if your exploit is epic, and have plenty of nice looking people wanting to give you a medal for this, remember you're anonymous for a good reason. hacking TV channel is highly illegal around here, you can't imagine.
