Amazing quality for the price.

Slightly bigger then the regular SARB models though (39.5 vs 38).

>>
New Amphibia SE, very military styled. Hands look like they're the same as on the Neptune.
>>
>>52211686
Because modern Tissot is basically the "I want to upgrade to an Omega" brand. Modern Visodates are okay, but you can get better for your shekels.

1K euroshekels are not quite poorfag tier but lets go on. Seiko SAR series are quite nice for the money (SARB033,SARB035,SARX015) or the much better SDGM series (SDGM01 and SDMG03 as examples). Orient Star is another option, some nice Hamiltons as well.

>>52211903
They seem to keep releasing some new SE model every couple of weeks or so. I really like the blue 120 case one they issued a while back.

>>
I really want a speedy but I don't want to take the mountain jew's cock in my ass.
What are the service intervals on the hand wind movement in the hesalite version? Are services expensive?
Does the movement have the same problem as other column-wheel chronos where the chrono seconds can snap back to the wrong position and require a service to fix?

Servicing a mechanical chronograph is always very expensive.
>>
>>52212365
>Servicing a mechanical chronograph is always very expensive.
I'm considering just going with a seagull chrono, simply because it's cheap enough where I can run it into the ground without worrying about getting it serviced. I can probably do the service on my own without the worry of fucking it up.
But alas, Alpha has pretty awful QC.
>>
So who else is hyped as fuck for the Seiko turtle re-release?
I didn't like it at first, but the gold on black has really grown on me.
>>
>>52212345
Like >>52212365 said, servicing a mechanical chrono is always expensive, especially from a big brand like Omega. However, I fail to see the connection between it being a column wheel chrono and the second hand not resetting properly. If anything that'd be a problem with how the hand was broached or if something is messed up with the reset hammers.
>>
>>52212425
It seems to be a problem with column-wheel chronos for some reason.
The seagull chrono movement also has a pretty big problem with resetting

There is no way to avoid mechanical chronograph being fairly high-maintenance. All you can do is buy used so at least you aren't paying the massively inflated prices for a new one.
>>
>>52212422
Are they even out in the US?
>>
>>52212628
Am I correct in thinking that quartz chronos are vastly superior to mechanical ones?
Regular movements are one thing, but mechanical chronographs are inaccurate in their stopwatch function, are high maintenance and are fairy fragile. I know the speedmaster is pretty rugged but it's the exception.

>>52212675

Depends on the movement.

My Seiko 6138 hasn't been serviced in like 20 years and it still works great.
>>
>>52212675
Really I think the mechaquartz movements are the best of both worlds, I'd like to see traditional quartz chrono movements just die off. You get the same pusher feeling and snap back of a mecahnical with the low cost, maintenance requirements, and high accuracy of quartz.
>>
>>52212703
Yeah but the 6138/6139 has that retarded clutch related design flaw. Otherwise solid movements though.
>>
>>52212726
Mechaquartz still has the problem of resetting incorrectly. It's also pretty impossible to service on your own or have a watch maker do it for you, you'll be stuck sending it back to Seiko. It happens fairly often too; sometimes out of the box from shock during shipping.
>>
>>52212771
Why service it though? The movements are dirtass cheap seeing as they're in $100 watches.
>>
>>52212759
Yea, but you can minimize the risk by keeping the chronograph running until you need to use It. Doesn't remove it but should help extend life a bit
>>
>>52212818
Yup.

Still need to be careful with the resets as well.

Really not that expensive for what you're getting, a handwindable automatic movement with sapphire glass which isn't a Seiko.

But if you're going to get buttfucked by customs, some sellers might be willing to mark it as a gift or as a watch with no battery (That worked once to be fair).

>>52215011
You can't use the pushers without unwinding the crown. You don't wind or unwind the crown while the watch is still on the wrist, or you stress the stem. If you had the slightest idea what you were talking about you would know this. Also, if you want to, you can do all of this while it's still on the wrist if you don't have any respect for the watch. You'd know that too if you could afford a proper watch. Finally, the chronograph doesn't actually get much use in real life. If you had life, you might know that too.>>52215011

I got her a rolex daytona because they look good on a girl and it's what she wanted. I don't know how to use a chrono because I don't own one. It's hers. When she adjusts it she takes it off her wrist. I've never seen her time anything with it, or at least I haven't paid attention and I have better things to talk to her about. Find me a opposite-handed Daytona you embittered weirdo. Alternatively, explain why you think she would find it harder to use on her right wrist than on her left.
>>

>>
>>52214957
Casio G-Shock is good, any quartz Seiko with the 7n43 movement (get it with a hardlex crystal and 100m water resistance for the case), the Sinn UX series, any chrono with the Lemania 5100 movement (but as they are older make sure they get tested for water resistance). The other anon is right- a Rolex sub with no date is quite tough. The ETA 2824-2 and 2801-2 series are pretty tough for autos- I've banged mine about with no trouble (Longines Conquest) except for all the dings and dents on the case.

There's a guy on Watchuseek who's been torture testing his Seiko auto (I think it has a 4r36 movement) and it's stood up to all sorts of shit including chopping wood.
>>
>>52215214

crown/pushers. whatever. It's a 116523 and the chrono pushers are screw down. Like I said, it stresses the stem to use it on the wrist. If you had ever handled one without being thrown out of the shop you would know this.

I have a komandirskie and a strap on the way, had a casio on the way too but I backed out of it because I don't really need a third digital watch. What is something cool I can get for $36.75 or under shipped? I'm looking at shit on ebay and watchrecon

Thanks, I've never bought from the site before so i was sceptical at first. Not to sure how long it takes for delivery but i may purchase in the future.

Maybe a stainless steel Amphibia bezel with a Seiko insert? AFAIK they fit on dirskies just fine.

Seiya ships quickly. Took about 5 days to get to west coast Canada.

So, here's a technological question for those of you who know something about mechanical movements:

Does the presence of a micro-adjuster for regulation on a mechanical movement tend to increase that movements ability to hold a state of regulation by holding the regulating arm more firmly in place than it would be held without one?

I.e. is it more resistant to accidental movement of the regulating arm because the arm itself becomes harder to move when a micro-adjuster is present?
>>
>>52219323
Thanks thats pretty awesome! Am in Britain so it may take around that time by the sounds of things.

>>52219427
>I.e. is it more resistant to accidental movement of the regulating arm because the arm itself becomes harder to move when a micro-adjuster is present?
If you're referring to a swan-neck regulator then yes, that's the intention. It doesn't work nearly as well in real life, but it does make regulation easier. Some seagull movements have it, check out the Marina Militare

I love it. Very unique and keeps generally good time. I say generally because it seems to fluctuate a lot, some days it gains only 1 or 2 seconds, others maybe 7 or 8 seconds, or more depending on how I lay it at night. But most of the time it averages to about +4s/24hrs, so overall really accurate.
The sapphire crystal, 200m water resistance, screw down crown, upgraded balance wheel spring, compass bezel, and distinctive looks make it stand out in the SARB line and a really solid watch for the money. My only real complaint is that the lume marker at 12o'clock isn't unique, which makes time-telling at night a little more difficult, but that's a minor gripe. Plus the stock strap is crap, but there's lots of other options.

Why don't companies make quality digital watches anymore?
It's either plastic chingchong shit or one ugly design out of a whole line. Life is suffering.
>>
>>52223863
They're not "in" anymore in the same way they used to be.

People either want cheap watches, ironic retro watches or rugged utilitarian watches when it comes to digital.

G-Shock is still great at the last thing.

That said I'm sure someone still makes decent digitals with steel case etc.

Because now the novelty has wore off, and companies realized that digital watches are for kids, not grown people, unless they are stupid child-minded simpletons.

This guys kinda have a point. With the exception of an iconic vintage piece given to me as a gift, digital watches are the one kind of timpiece I don't own, not do I want to own, in my entire collection. I respect other's appreciation on this watches and I'm sorry, but IMHO they are horrid crap.

In order to be at least "passable" they have to have a set of hands, wich are refered as hybrid (a digital display AND a set of traditional hands) but even then the design is reeeeally ugly.

If you are hunting for a truly resistant piece you should look into the Victorinox INOX line recently launched. I was invited to a demonstration of their resistance and I was greatly impressed; I got to keep the watch with me and abuse it for two more weeks after the testing and I couldn't manage to brake it, and believe me, I tried.

In my opinio the gratest quality of it i that it doesn't look like shit. Pic related.

The only problem is that it's worth 5 more times than the watch in your publication, but I think it's also worth the effort.

Cheers.

I'm sorry but I can't properly answer to your question right now, as the watch is in the bank's vault with almost the rest of my collection. Since I pass through practically everyday, I'll try to carry a weight and aswer you over this starting week. >>52219427
Theoretically speaking, devices to micro adjust the watch (like a swan neck or a regulating screw) can improve the resistance of a watch to shocks, but they'll also suffer more damage and, in the event of a contundent hit, will demand further (and more expensive) repair.

The proper way to protect the escapement and balance wheel modules from a shock is through shock absorving devices like the "incabloc" construction or with designs that keep the movement relatively isolated, like the rubber gaskets on the Glashutte Original Impact Chronograph. Pic related.

I normally wouldn't overpay for an Invicta, but I got this one on the cheap, and I like it's design.

It's really fucking big though. Even for a chronograph. I plan on buying another watch that's more subtle. I'm looking at Timex or Vostok right now. I don't believe in buying cheap K-Mart crap, but I'm not exactly going to spend over $50 on a watch.

>>52225475
Well to be fair, what makes fashion watches _so_ bad is the overpricing. If you get an Invicta or a Fossil at $50, it ain't exactly a bad deal if you get one with a decent enough design (or at least one that you like)

Buy them at $150 from your local jeweler and you dun goofed tho.

It really depends if the device your imitating with your phone contains specialized hardware or not. I can't imagine a phone's camera is as good as whatever your light meters have, nor is the internal mic as good as a contact microphone with preamp, but at least with the latter you can't really fuck up the sound of a ticking watch.

And should cost about the same as one. Nomos looks like dogshit, exception is this model, but the price is silly.
I don't care about the inhouse shit. Just one of many marketing stunts to make a brand seem interesting.
Orient does things inhouse too, and? why are they not asking several K$ for their watches? Fuck nomos, they make watches for special little snowflakes.

>>52225775
But anon it's I N H O U S E
Never mind that it's an inhouse copy of an existing Peseux movement and that a handwinding subdial second movement is pretty much as basic and simple as it gets and there is absolutely nothing unique about it that necessitated building it themselves.

Guys, guys.

For a watch, a high price tag is a feature. Not an issue. They're status symbols.

Well, new try since last post didn't come through.

So what do you guys think of Helgray? Canadian kickstarter company that make some nice watches.
I ordered mine during the summer and it has been my daily driver ever since. Quality is not bad, and it's not too flashy either.
Pic related, my Helgray Silverstone

This is true, and it made me laugh. hehe

Don't know who is that faggot but I concur watches are not good investements, but passion. It's almost imposible to predict whic watches will become sought after and the chances of doing mistakes are sky high.
That been said, one of my watches had doubled it's price since the moment I bought it and I didn't knew until a lovely watch executive (a girl, duh) pointed it out in a GIG. It was a nice surprise, but mute, since I don't plan of ever selling it.

I know have almost 20 high-end pieces and several more affordable ones. Some people call me paranoid but when your collection starts reaching the half a million bucks pricetag, you start taking precautions.

It's a watch for the blind and low and weak sighted. The two spheres (one on the top and one on the sides) function as a set of hands and are tactil, thus one can "sense" the hour through the fingers.

Apparently, Nomos prices aren't a feature, but the consecuence of a better finishing of the movements and better materials overall. See this thread around the middle:

I remeber their Kickstarter. I was tempted to chip-in, but decided to wait further until reliability was put to test. I like your watch and is good to see others supporting the independants. Cheers!!!

Like most micro brands, Halios, Helgray, Lew&Huey and so on, I find them great looking and refreshing, but not for the price they're asking.

At more then half that price point I could just get a Seiko SSB line mechaquartz which will most likely be more reliable and has more versatile designs. True, most of'em looks pretty boring and traditional chronograph but for 100$~200$ I can't really complain.

imho ,all in all , loves the looks and design but not worth the price.

I'm curious m8. As a pal of yours, I'm genuinely curious to your watch collection, how do you afford it? Is you're law firm business venture serious that successful? Have you made your fortune in other investments? Or have you financed your collection with business capital
