The worst part is that the imitation is always skin-deep. Try to develop anything for them and it's the same shitshow that developing UI-based software on Linux has always been.
If they really wanted to make tracks, they'd provide a nice UI toolkit, IDE, and UI builder that mirror Cocoa, Xcode, and Interface Builder. Qt Creator/Design and Glade or whatever don't even compare.

Lets be real, unity & gnome3 are piece of shit.
Xfce is missing tons of crap out of the box (crippled network & audio conntrol).
The only option is either wm.
There is no desktop that just werks on linux.
KDE is closest thing to date. You can hate it as much as you want but is the only end user target desktop that actualy worked out of the box for me.
I didnt have problems with either brightness control, sound control, network sharing(from gui) and my applications loook pretty much uniform when i change the theme.
