What computer desk and chair do you use? Would you recommend them? Pic related is what I'm looking at, I literally just need a barebones desk and a comfortable chair.
>>
>>52206879
looks a little cramped, but if it's enough space for you, go for it. I like having a deeper workspace.
>>
>>52206902
They have a larger desk for only 20 dollars more, but it's not any deeper, just much wider. My current desk and chair were bought from a pawn shop for like 20 dollars combo, so even a relatively cheap new desk and chair would be fabulous.

Just looking to get some rec's on economical equipment. I don't know if Ikea is any good but if it stands up and holds a monitor that's pretty good to me.
>>
>>52206879
I have one of their drafting tables I think. I bought a moniter riser with it. It's simple and huge as fuck.

I'm planning on buying two of these Ikea desks at some point and putting them side by side. One for my computer and the other for whatever.
>>
>>52206879
>Pic related is what I'm looking at,
Don't. Just buy four legs and one of their kitchen worktops (or practically any suitable bit of wood). It'll look better, feel better, and handle chips/scrapes like a champ because the outside is actually wood.

I'm thinking about buying a Herman Miller Embody. What do you think?

I've been looking for a good metal + glass desk that's 1) not tiny (can comfortably a 27" monitor, laptop, and printer) and 2) has a keyboard tray large enough to handle more than just a keyboard (for some reason most can just barely handle a full-length board). It's surprisingly hard to find something that matches these criteria.

My advice to you guys is to search for used furniture stores. You can get full sides real wooden desks for around $20( I got this for $16 and resurfaced it altogether under $30).

You can get full office executive desks with drawers and shit for $50-$100 but I didn't have the space in my room to accomidate it.

Just my two cents.

My former setup was a regular kitchen work plank (not really sure how you call these in english, it's just the regular work plan that you cut to place a sink and everything), bolted to the wall, with a pair of adjustable legs.
The table on the right was acutally an old door, simply stacked onto a pair of old IBM 80386 workstations. It sat a bit lower that the main desk, but I could use the small space to hide cable and controllers. Everything was sturdy as fuck, could handle multiple CRT monitors and myself on it.

Please excuse potato picture and messy room.

I made mine.

It's two sawhorses with a 2X4 reinforced sheet of OSB with a sheet of tempered glass on the top.

I don't know how strong it is, but I can jump on it and I weigh about 150 pounds.

The sawhorses are rated to hold 1000 pounds each, so I guess at its strongest points directly over the horses it could hold 1000 pounds.

Fuck you dad, you said all I did was play video games. Well guess who's laughing now? Me. While I play video games on this sturdy table I built.

I'm fine with this.

Yup legs are from Ikea, top panel is hand crafted, you can't find anything like that at Ikea, its raw pine wood, 250x80cm, 5cm thick. Bigger and way better than anything Ikea will ever sell.

Post pictures of underside pls

How did you figure the optimal height? Is the weight on it an issue or no?

>200€ for a piece of wood
Why, just why? Is it some fancy wood or something? When I was making my desk I bought the same sized board for 30€.

Late reply, but to be fair so is ours.

Desktop threads are a massive circlejerk. Most geenerals on /vg/ are massive circlejerks, and the community is about the size as the one you'd find on niche subreddits like /r/woodworking.

Price and dimensions look good but is this sturdy enough for daily use?

I have that but in white and only 3 shelves rather than 4.

I have the same desk but I put a glass surface on top so it looks more slick it is not a big desk but fits my keyboard mouse router , monitor and speakers just fine.
>>
>>52224127
Wide enough but far from deep enough
>>
>>52227609
Just noticed it and it's such a dealbreaker.

Interestingly enough the shorter variant is deeper.

i got the mickie as a side table and its ok

Get the Malm as its way bigger to use.

>Don't buy IKEA; you'll come to regret it in 3 years

Stop spouting this meme, or at least give a reason why not to buy ikea.

I've had three desks, a drawer unit and a bookshelf that i've used for years now and I have no problem with them because I respect and take care of my property.
>>
>>52207596
that thing would rek your wrists big time
>>

Yeah thats why i got a custom plate and bought legs separately. It's going to cost more thought.
>>
>>52227268
>>52227609
I have this kind of setup. Works quite well. It's not too deep, but it hasn't been much of an issue to me personally, but if depth is an issue, don't go for this solution.
>>
>>52216961
I hope you remember to buy enough wood to support the right side, otherwise it might be a bit lopsided :^)

>>
>>52206879
I have that exact desk in black. It's okay. Almost no room for anything else besides my g710 keyboard, monitor and a steelseries qck mini mousepad. There's not much vertical room for your legs, I'm a 5 foot 7 120lbs female and it's just barely comfortable for me.
>>
>>52213624
I have an older version of this same design and it works well for me. I keep the glass in good condition with windex. The desk provides good support unless you're a very big guy.
>>
>>52206939
If you live near a store go in and look at their flat stand-alone table tops. I bought a massive tabletop for 30$ and then the four legs at 4$ a piece. 52$ in total and 15 minutes of drilling later and I have a better desk than the one I paid 110$ on Amazon a couple months ago.
>>
>>52213624
>>52214149
I had this desk. If you have multiple monitors or larger peripherals such as a full size keyboard or a larger mouse pad then this isn't all that great. It looks pretty nice though, until the fingerprints and shit inevitably fuck it up ten seconds after you take it out of the box

WARNING to U.S.A. buyers. carcinogen chemicals in YOUR-YOUR-YOUR chair! california technical bulletin 117 put cancer in the chairs u buy, whoops! sitting on it all day increasing bodily content of harmful substances, highest among Americans for this reason! 1/3 of the foamweight of your chair comes from terrible chemical spraying. BUT-- 2013 amendment (to abhorrent law that caused immesurable human suffering by increaseing daily exposure to toxins across an entire population, thx cali!) makes possible for NOT spraying chair with awful awful things. finally hallelujah. however most companies still spritzing their shit with ineffective cancercausing garbagemolecules.

but one word, rings out thru the nite.

It's all particle board which is literally the worst building material. You can't repair it. At all. Ever.

This is why I am getting my custom table from a local hardware store that has the same pieces cheaper, just to fix up my drafting table.

Can you follow instructions? Can you be patient while oiling and staining? If yes, then you're fine. If no, then go buy some ikea shit

Yeah sure. Normally I'd go with ikea shit since I'm kind of lazy, but I need something that's pretty sturdy

I use a Blaha Type 8 and also a chair from Blaha (similar to the one in the pic). Finest Austrian quality, the tabletop is melamine. Also it's 2m wide and 80cm deep.
>>
>>52206879
Have the same damn table.
Can fit a keyboard + mouse, but doesnt have space left even for a phone at the side. Also, gets really cramped with all the cables going into there.
5/10, can live with it
>>
Conset sit/stand desk. Electrically adjustable. I can't remember the exact model number. Bought it several years ago. Cost me £600+ from what I remember. Totally worth it though.
>>
>>52206879
Realspace Magellan from Office Depot.
I've had it for about 5 years and it's starting to peel.
For the price, I think it's held up pretty well.
As far as recommending it, sure, as long as you don't expect to to last forever.

For a cheap, quality chair, I'd recommend the Ikea Markus.
Really nice warranty on it for the price point and it's really comfy and sturdy.

I'm still looking for a nice table or cabinet I could put to the right of my desk and put my mid tower case on. Don't have an ikea near me.

Finding something that large and sturdy is rather difficult as far as cabinets go.
