/g/, Does such thing exist?
A converter to convert a file say "PuTTY.exe" to text? Say to send it over an email or something like that? And with the same software reconstruct it to PuTTY.exe?
Is this even possible?
>>
Yes, it's called base64.

Welcome to 1996.

Just open the .exe as a text file, ctrl-a, ctrl-c, paste it into an e-mail, then reverse the process on the other end.

Do you think it will be lighter as a text file because text files are usually lighter than executables?
Disappointment awaits you

Bless you anon, bless you

It's useful when corporate email blocks sending exe files.

>>52208260
The -C flag to hexdump enables ASCII view.

What are archives for $10?

That is, in fact, how email attachments work.

With a method like this you can theoretically open a file in notepad as something like ASCII, convert it to HEX, and print it on a sheet of paper. The one flaw to this is you have to have a certain program to read the text or you would literally be typing all of that code for hours depending on the file size. Other than that, it's a great way to archive files.

You damn whippersnapper.

This likely won't print certain characters, such as nulls, that won't show up when you open the file.

Copying it as hexadecimal binary code would work, but is more complex.

use yenc, everything else is deprecated

If you're just looking to send something over email just change the file extension to .txt and when the person receives it they can just change it back.
>>
>>52210840
yenc is crap, it has a fucking header for no reason.
It's overengineered bullshit, no wonder everyone just uses Base64.
>>
>>52211198
>everyone just uses Base64
yenc is the standard on usenet and way more efficient than any other text encoding
>>
Is it possible to just change the file extension to .txt and then email it, and then the recipient changes the file extension back to .exe?
