Question: doesn't anime look bad with interpolation?
I remember turning off smooth motion when watching Studio Ghibli stuff, both the old ones, as well as that newer one with the world war planes.
It felt like a lot of things there were meant to be a slideshow.
For anything else I can barely live without smooth motion, interpolation, things like that.

mpv isn't a hard project to understand. It's only 100,000 lines of code, compared to MPC-HC's 300,000, VLC's 600,000 and FFmpeg's 1,000,000. It's really simple as far as software goes and it's actually feasible that a lone nerd could become familiar with the whole codebase and be reasonably certain that it doesn't do anything underhanded. mpv gets new contributors all the time, and the whole codebase changes pretty regularly, so it would be a pretty wide-reaching conspiracy if mpv did anything underhanded or made any sort of development decision that benefited Plex over mpv's users and no one sounded the alarm. I'd be more concerned about FFmpeg if I were you. It actually has multiple Plex employees as contributors and it's even had contributions from Google.

Any way to make mpv play the next file in a directory like MPC can?

Sometimes I find I opened episode 8 instead of episode 9 because I didn't remember exactly what episode I left off at. It would be handy to just be able to hit a key to make mpv navigate to the next file in the directory instead of closing it and opening another instance. Also could be handy for binge watching if you can toggle the default behavior to play next file rather than close mpv at the end of a file.

Been using mpv out of the box for some weeks in my laptop and i love it.
I have a Nvidia GeForce 940 which is not that great, can it take the High configs or should i go with the basic configuration in the op?
Also, how do i force mpv to use the Nvidia card instead of the integrated intel chipset?

Nvidia is fucked up beyond my worst expectations and wouldn't let me to set the Graphics card for mpv in the control panel, or when i successfully set things up, the settings wouldn't be saved when i closed the control panel, so i renamed mpv.exe for something else (Cryisis.exe lel) and now it works and saves the configuration to use the card instead the integrated chip, you just have to set again your mkv files to the new pathway but i think that's it.

>>
>>52230939

Ah I've been wanting to do this for a long time but I'm shit at lua and mpv scripting in general.

So basically the idea is you want to make a script that will read the titles of the audio/subtitle tracks and then logically pick the subtitles based on the audio. For example, if you open a file and it plays english audio (based on your preferences in your config) you want the script to disable all subtitles.

You could even take it further and make some logic based config file for the script, which can do more than what mpv normally does. For example you let the script choose the default audio/subtitles based on its own logic, and not the defaults in mpv.conf.

Like I said I've been working on this but it's mostly trial and error with different mpv properties. And also I don't really know lua.

Depends on your computer, depends on your taste, depends on what you want.

The problem with the old one is that there was a damn lot of deprecated stuff, stuff that got reused, stuff that wasn't useful. It was long, dirty, incompatible. It was a Frankenstein's Monster of old and new.

While this is just an example, there's probably a million ways to get more placebo out of this. Like using some sort of script that interacts with xrandr on GNU/Linux to interpolate instead of using the built-in interpolation that mpv has. So here's one that has quite some placebo:

http://pastebin.com/cQY5FDZ3

Feel free to paste your OSD, subs and screenshot settings from the old one. Also add whatever else you need. Many of the "other" settings works too. Don't forget, if you wonder what a setting does, it is extremely well documented here: https://mpv.io/manual/master/

If you're unsure on ANY setting I just posted, look it up and see if you want that. I've commented what most does in short terms, but to get a better understanding search it up in the manual and it'll automatically tell you all the details.

Again, this is just an example. Not "objectively the best" or anything like that.

Thank you so much, this is so much more organized that what I had before. I'll checkout the docs before I put it in, however just wondering why did you choose to disable vdpau?
>>
>>52236527
In case you didn't use GNU/Linux. vdpau is Linux only.

Hey guys, a little while ago I made a little script to keep track of what I'm watching.

https://github.com/bananarang/MPV-Last-Watched

First time working with lua, and the code quality is pretty bad, but it's been working for me. (On linux.)

It puts a text file in the directory when mpv runs, with the series title, and then the episode number, along with how far in the MPV got.

Mostly just works with anime naming conventions, american series tend to include the episode name in the file name, which will make it not work as well.

Main reason I use it is so that if I come back to a series after a few days, I remember where I was, thought it might be useful.

Don't worry, 100% Arch, thanks!

I feel like 60% of the scripts you guys like are just included by default in Baka MPlayer.

How old is the AMD card? AMD is much better at video anything on Windows purely due to raw performance

Not him but... what about the plugins? (like this one >>52216997)
Where do i put them?
I tried creating a folder named "scripts" on %APPDATA%\mpv\ but it doesnt seem to work.

mpv already does that?

IT keeps track of a file that you already opened, but it doesn't keep track of episodes in a series, just per file settings, this is a bit more involved than that.
