for old people only:

what home computer brand did you own/use during the 1980s?

was it Atari, Commodore, Apple, TI, IBM, Tandy, Sinclair, or something else?

post pics if possible.

Commodore. First was a VIC-20, then a C64 (also an SX-64 wew).

Had an Amiga 1200 in high school.

Cousins (dumbasses) went Atari. Why be able to share games ? Who would want to do that ?

First PC was a hand-me-down Tandy from my grandpa. Used it for word processing and the odd DOS game every now and then.

Had it until the mid 2000's when I gave it away to goodwill.

My dad was a retard so he still used his fucking homebrew 8 bit computer until look 83'. He even read protocol standards and made peripherals in his free time, even now i look like a software only babby in front of him. Then we got an IBM. The games were limited and hard to obtain but good darn were they fun
>>
>>52204830
that's pretty cool. what kind of peripherals did he make?
>>
Tandy 1000 EX
Tandy 1000 TX
Tandy Sensation brought me into the 90's. (Eventually upgraded to a DX4 100 and 14MB RAM [paid $200 for 8MB right before the price-fixing floor dropped out. 16MB was >$100 a few months later.])

Wanted Apple ][+. Got shitty 99/4a instead. Spent most of my time at my buddy's house who had a slick ][c.

I'm not old enough to contribute to this thread, but I do have a collection of Compaq commercials here featuring John Cleese that may be of interest.

Family had an IBM PS/2 which i used from the ages of 5-10. I remember it having both DOS and windows 3.1 on it at different times, but I might be thinking of a different computer.

I do remember when we got an IBM aptiva in 1995 and we put windows 95 on that at some point.

The internet was pretty ghetto in the early 90s, but kind of neat now that i look back on it.

Commodore. Had the 64. Although I had access to Apple II series machines and the original Macs when they were new, they were so far out of our price range as to be laughable.

No he was smart, every new (expensive) system was hard to expand with your own hardware while not increasing the processing power that much.
Hell we used a S100 Cromemco Z-1 as a main system till the late 80, upgraded with various own made peripherals and newer Cromemco cards.

I had an Amiga 500 and a fuck load of pirated games. Used it until we bought a gaming rig running windows 95 in 1997. Even then I usually just used the Amiga since all I had on the windows machine was a 201 game DOS demo disk.

Nintendo entertainment system was the only "computer" I had in the 80s. My turkish neighbours in Norway had s commondore 64 with a tape drive. I was suprised that you could use cassette tapes on computers and always wondered how it would sound in my stereo.

A kid I knew had a Apple Macintosh but that might have been in 1990-92

I have no idea what brand it was. it was some generic PC clone, I believe a 386. Was given/loaned/whatever to us by my dad's employer, he had some dial-up software he'd use to connect to work and do who knows what.
>>
Born '93, but I lived in 3rd world so my first PC was an IBM PS/2 Model 40 with a 386SX, then after that all the Pentiums from 1 through 4 as custom machines, a Pentium 4 XT in a Dell Optiplex, a hand me down Core3Duo VAIO then a Nehalem Pentium as a custom and now an i7 gaymen laptop.

My first console was an Atari 2600, then a NES and a SNES(all well after their heyday). I got a PS2 in 2007(?).

1984 reporting. My first computer was a 66Mhz MS-DOS machine, can't remember the brand. Don't know why I specifically remembered the 66Mhz, perhaps because it was fast for its time.

'82 here. The older I get the less bad I feel about 'wasting my time'. The way you spend your time when you're young has more effect on your future than it does when you're older. As for life being half over you don't know when you're going to die.
