>How We Use Data

>Microsoft uses data we collect from the Program software and services to operate, improve and personalize Microsoft products and services. For example, we use your voice data to improve speech recognition, we use your settings data to sync and roam your settings across devices, and we use information we learn about your interests to help make the content and ads we show you more relevant. Not quite definitive, so I'll see, if I can find a bit more, but here is something of concern:

(i) when you install or use Program software and services, we may collect information about your device and applications and use it for purposes such as determining or improving compatibility

(ii) when you open a file, we may collect information about the file, the application used to open the file, and how long it takes to use it for purposes such as improving performance

>botnet memers dont know what a botnet is.
A botnet is a number of Internet-connected computers communicating with other similar machines in an effort to complete repetitive tasks and objectives. This can be as mundane as keeping control of an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) channel, or it could be used to send spam email or participate in distributed denial-of-service attacks. The word botnet is a combination of the words robot and network. The term is usually used with a negative or malicious connotation.

Windows is a malicious botnet.

The only retarded thing here is you thinking this is somehow not acceptable.

It's how every major os upgrade works including osx, the only difference being MS saves you the step of uninstalling it so you're not left with an incompatible program on your HDD and wondering why it doesn't work and crashes your system when you run it.

You would've had to download a new version either way. Don't even bother lying.

I'll explain it to you in a civilised manner.

Botnet is a whole range of things which in PR buzz tend to be called "telemetry".

Is telemetry bad or wrong? I don't know. Microsoft claims(for instance) that telemetry data made them remove start menu in windows 8. On the other hand you don't know how many things were actually improved because of telemetry because you only see "wow - it's an improvement" and never ask why was it added/removed/moved somewhere else. For google and search engines as a whole this is particularly important - for example if I'll search for, dunno, some electronic component, I will find it's specification etc. but then, in the second or third link I'll have shop in my country or even region which sells that component. How did they know where do I live? Well they've spied on me. Is it bad? No. It doesn't always have to be bad.

At the same time, things that are hidden behind telemetry can just spy on you. Then of course comes all sort of ethical concerns related to it and even if you disagree with them, you have to understand that for some people, it's important.

Now the whole issue became important after NSA leaks. The problem is "how can I tell what kind of data am I sending" - I mean, if you use intel CPU - tell me what kind of data it transmits through the built in 3G transmitter? Can you check it? Usually no.

The most important argument behind avoiding "botnet" software is very simple though and I wholly agree. The computer I've bought for my hard earned money, is MY computer. I decide what it should and what it shouldn't do.

it is very acceptable from MS point of view
>be you
>a mentally challenged retard
>start pc up one day after update
>you start up /geee/ to post in a battlestation and speccy circlejerk
>windows did not remove your speccy after the update
>you start speccy
>BSOD
>you try again
>BSOD
>you go in full nerdrage and claim _everything_ is microsofts fault
and don't you dare to pretend you would act like a reasonable being and search for the problems instead of instantly and without proof shitting on microsofts roof
that's exactly what would happen and you know that

now go off yourself, asshole

Because they are botnets. It's not a FEELING we have, it's just facts
>>

YOU gave them authority to do that when you accepted their terms and conditions that clearly state that they will collect, name, your contacts, the websites you visit, your passwords, credit card numbers and all other things clearly stated in the terms and conditions.

Stop being a idiot, windows 7 is the exact same thing unless you plan to have a windows 7 without any updates completely exposed to tons of malware.

Get linux for normal stuff and windows 10 for gaymes

Windows kinda sucks but it's the only viable option so we're stuck with it.

No, Linux doesn't work.

>windows 7 is the exact same thing

But it's not. Data collection is completely optional there and it doesn't remove software on its own.
