This guy knows what's up
A fuse designed to be easily replaceable. Got a couple of these in my guitar amp.
Its a regular fuse.
If amperage gets too high through a circuit for whatever reason, high draw, faulty things upstream, lightning, whatever, it will melt the connection and "pop" as the oxygen inside burns.
It breaks the connection when current gets too high for other things to handle, so it doesnt break your shit.
Example, plug a string of christmas lights into anything higher than a 120v socket, watch the fuse in the plug pop almost instantly.
Then replace the fuse with some wire, packed tinfoit, etc and plug it in again. All the lights will burn out.

it's a vacuum tube
it's used for amplification, etc.
they've been mostly replaced with transistors, like pic related, nowadays

actually laughed out loud at this

It's a fuse, it's a designed weak point that you put into electrical plugs and other electrical things, designed to break if there is a surge in electricity, thus protecting the circuits of your valuable expensive electronic toys.
