My PC cost twice as much as my Mac yet I use it exclusively for playing games because Windows is horrible for anything else and Linux is way to labor-intensive for adults with an actual job.

Fun fact: I was using Linux between the ages of 19 to 25 but then I grew up and didn't have the time for that anymore (I'm 34 now). Now that I have money, Macs suddenly don't seem so expensive anymore. Go figure!

Do you also drive a gas guzzling 4x4 because you're an "adult"? Or would you rather drive something that costs a fraction of the running price?

This implication that feeling okay with spending more makes you an "adult" is actually a form of immaturity that society imposes on you from the long run, its a form of materialism, its basically misinforming you that you're high status.

Whilst the people doing this to you rub their hands together and say "good goyim."

Frugality isn't immaturity, disposable income is. Frugality in a capitalist era is just intelligence.

Because I refuse to bend my knee to Win 10, I downloaded OpenSUSE Leap and slapped it on my system.

I ran into many problems, but probably the most egregious ones were Dolphin locking up for a few minutes and then throwing an unintelligible error when playing any kind of media file from a network drive, and the open source Radeon driver being HIGHLY unstable with the 390X (hard locks, black screens, etc).

The first problem turned out to be an actual bug fixed in a newer version of the KDE framework, and the second problem was resolved via the AMD proprietary driver.

Holy shit, who tests this garbage? I find it mind boggling that Leap 42.1 shipped in this state, given the two issues were instantly apparent.

Way to miss the point. I don't do any of those things because I need to prove something - I do them because I *want* to and I'm old enough that money or peer pressure doesn't hold me back. I'm not mature *because* I can afford a Mac, I'm mature because I know exactly why I want it and don't let people like you hold me back because it's "dumb" and "overpriced". Hint: it's not. I need to be happy with my software and that's not something I'm going to get with Windows or Linux - I'd rather pay more money for pseudo-worse hardware because it's STILL the better compromise. You fucks think people buy Macs because they don't know any better but that's just your smug justification for your own uninformed opinion.

>Fun fact: I was using Linux between the ages of 19 to 25 but then I grew up and didn't have the time for that anymore (I'm 34 now). Now that I have money, Macs suddenly don't seem so expensive anymore. Go figure!
You heavily implied "growing up" means not thinking Macs are expensive.

I won't comment on software quality, although with a little investment in research you'll find there are the same features in osx on many Linux DEs, how's that for an informed opinion? Otherwise, what do you think you're paying for?

> I'd rather pay more money for pseudo-worse hardware because it's STILL the better compromise.
So you admit that after a bit of research you might not be getting the best specs? Then what are you paying for? or are you actually paying more with the illusion that "you get what you pay for," yeah that works... For children spending their family's money.

>You fucks think people buy Macs because they don't know any better but that's just your smug justification for your own uninformed opinion.

It is windows' fault since it just an html element, that uses the system's file picker. Any file picker in windows will react the same as in you want to move the file to the location in the picker, but what you wactually want to do (and what's the most logical) is select the file you dropped in the picker.

The whitespace allocation in KDE is horrible, even with Plasma. There's too little where it's needed and way too fucking much where it isn't.

Qt Designer doesn't really help with it either, as it provides very few snap guidelines and isn't good at fine-tuning flow and layout. It's actually one of the reasons I haven't taken up Qt in earnest.

Gaaaah. I didn't plan to spend so much time on this shit but here I go...

>You heavily implied "growing up" means not thinking Macs are expensive.
First of all, I was replying to a guy who said "paying 1000 for overpriced hardware with a pretty UI" so I might have let myself sink down to his level. Second of all, this is a stupidly hateful board when it comes to Apple products in general, which also plays into anything I write here. I'd still argue that it's often "rebellious" teen-nerds who use Linux as desktop and feel better about themselves for it while hating on Apple for purely subjective reasons.

>I won't comment on software quality, although with a little investment in research you'll find there are the same features in osx on many Linux DEs, how's that for an informed opinion? Otherwise, what do you think you're paying for?
Jesus fucking Christ. I have been using Linux for 10 fucking years - don't you think I know what the software quality looks like? Why do you people always assume Mac users don't know what they're talking about??? Would you say the same thing to John Gruber?

>So you admit that after a bit of research you might not be getting the best specs? Then what are you paying for? or are you actually paying more with the illusion that "you get what you pay for," yeah that works... For children spending their family's money.
Again, you act like I don't know what I'm talking about. I know Apples hardware prices are way higher than they should be - that's fucking obvious. But the alternative is not using OSX and that's just never worth it for me. Or building a Hackintosh PC which is even worse.

>And the cherry is a passive aggressive statement, nice.
I'm pretty sure I was openly aggressive because you're acting like a smug know-it-all asshole.
>>
>>52200482

And that's part of the problem. KDE requires hours of knob twiddling and switch flipping to get into a cohesive, nice-looking, usable state. This is really bad because KDE happens to have hundreds and hundreds of knobs and switches.

Insane configurability is great but if you're going that route, you're going to have make the defaults really really good and "ready to use" for the majority of users.

I've tried using KDE several times but always give up and switch back to something GTK+ based because at least those have sensible defaults even if they lack configurability.

I love how file pickers are attached to their parent windows in OS X. It makes a lot of sense. I don't know why other operating system don't do it... making the picker its own window just makes it easy to get lost in the shuffle of a bunch of other windows. File dialogs modally block the windows that spawned them so it's not you can do anything in the parent window while it's open anyway.
