gaymen laptops cost twice as much as a more powerful desktop and they have poor battery life and are heavy
but as someone who has friends I like to play pc games outside my own room so it's not like they are pointless.
any laptop with SSD, 970m, and a quad core processor should do the trick in your budget. it'll be heavy and have shit battery but that's the tradeoff for doing LAN up at a friend's joint. and yes, a 700 dollar desktop would outperform this.
Clevo p650SE. It's a gen 5 cpu, usually a i7 4720hq, supports nvme ssd's, has a gtx 970m with 3gb of gddr5, so no 3.5gb issue. Got mine with 16gb of ram, has 4 slots, can take up to 32gb. Has space for 2 7.0mm sata ssd's or one 9.0mm hdd, 2 pcie ports that can use 2x nvme drives or 1 at 4x. Got mine in eBay for 1k.came with a nice ips screen too. Gpu temp barely goes over 60 under load, only had thing I'd say is soldered cpu instead of socket. Don't go for the 4k screens, there's no way even the beefier 980m option can give you decent framerates on it. Also brushed metal case.
