Arch is meant to be "put together from the scratch". With that you know exactly what you installed and you know the packages' limitation/compatibility. With pre built arch packages you can't do that. When something breaks you will have a hard time finding out what went wrong or your packages will stay broken

I've tried them all and besides following the wiki, Architect and BBQLinux (NOT LINUXBBQ!) are the only well known ones that work. I'd also like to note that some hippie has a base installer that will install the base packages without a network connection. Irc, it's called Arch Anywhere. It'll get you going in a few minutes.
