>Apple is a leader in good design
>>52185263
I still have one of those.
>I was not alive in the 90s
A lot of people wanted one just based off of the design and that they could pick their own color for it.
>>52185330
The handle doesn't seem like such a bad idea, assuming it's retractable and doesn't prevent you from putting it against obstructions like a wall. Oh, and that you can trust it not to break and wreck all your shit.
>>52185377
>literally a fag magnet
Get a real laptop son.
>>52185393
It looks more like something designed for little girls in middle school in 2001. Like a toy they would put Barbie stickers over.
At least it's not beige. Or bright red and blue on black.
>>52185393
I hope you're being sarcastic with that tacticool edgelord shit. If I saw you with that laptop and you didn't work in a construction yard I would laugh at your fedora-wearing neckbearded face.

For what purpose?
>>52185677
So if you drop it while the lid is closed it doesn't damage the hinge
>>52185439
>I would laugh at your fedora-wearing neckbearded face.
You seem to be under the delusion that your opinion is somehow special.
Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one and most of them stink.
>>52185706
It's not special by virtue of the fact that most of the Earth's population would also laugh if they saw you carrying that around. The rest also indulge in your love for tacky looking unnecessary tacticool gear. It's like wearing a helmet, elbow and knee pads everywhere you go instead of when you actually need them (while sucking dick).
>>52185263
Thank you Captain Obvious.
>>52185706
haha upvoted
>>52185439
I doubt you would.
I own one of these and use it every day, and you can't do anything about it.
>>52186197
>want a toughbook because actual real keyboard
>look up prices
>$4500 for entry level models with same specs as $500 consumer laptops
Life is suffering.
>>52186278
They're much cheaper secondhand on ebay.
I saw a pallet of 120 of them go for 15k.
>>52185263
But how is that possible?
>>52185393
We use these on the flightline. Not sure why you would need a ruggadized laptop unless you do heavy maintenance or something though. They are pretty damn expensive.
People misunderstand why Apple is so successful. It isn't design or innovation, Apple simply showed the world how to sell tech to the technologically illiterate plebeian masses.
>>52187017
I mostly just want a handle, and I want it to be a sturdy intregrated handle and not something on some tiny briefcase hinges.
I really don't need to carry anything all day except my laptop. Having to cup it in one hand feels insecure, and two hands looks autistic.
>>52185263
>ports are spread out in areas where they're more conducive to actual use rather than hidden behind a fragile flap on the back of the system like everything else was at the time
>carrying handle made it easier to lug one-handed
>circular puck AC adapter was designed that way so you could wrap the power cord around it easier
It's not all bad, it actually significantly influenced notebook systems at the time in a few good ways, mainly that first point. It's a very unwieldy system though thanks to that big case, I always liked the PowerBooks much better in both styling and performance.

what does "smart" people buy?
Even when those first came out, my first thought was "retarded toilet seat".
>>52187064
>it actually significantly influenced notebook systems at the time in a few good ways, mainly that first point
You're literally retarded.
Those legacy parallel/serial ports NEEDED to be covered up because they were while not very delicate, susceptible to bump damage. Dropping the covers came naturally when USB became popular.
>>52187093
They buy classy and tough Thinkpads, anon.
Just kidding, they don't. Smart people buy Macs because of their hardware and resale value. Seriously, compare any similarly equipped laptop to a Macbook. The Macbook will slap the shit out of the competition. Same with the iPhone.

Whatever they buy is irrelevant to what I said? Technologically inclined people were already the demographic for this stuff.

>>52187103

I can't even tell you about a single laptop I've ever seen in my decade or so of hoarding old shit that has been damaged like that. Ever.
What you said doesn't even really make sense either considering that parallel and serial ports continued to be a mainstay especially in business systems for years after laptops adopted this and even most "legacy-free" systems, mostly ultraportables, still covered pretty much all of their ports.
>>52187232
>usb ports
>covered
Pick one.
>>52187232
>even most "legacy-free" systems

Please find us these mythical USB only laptops with covers over the USB ports, I could use a good laugh whether they exist or not.
>>52187258
>>52187319
Here's an ultraportable from around late 1998 with covered ports
Only other good example I've got laying around at the moment is my 600E, or a Compaq ultraportable that keeps its USB port in the main block of shielded ports.
>>52187126
Thats pretty sleek

I ain't even surprised desu senpai. Those two were meant to be together and churn out garbage together.
>>52187472
>it's not a brand I like so you're wrong!
lmao senpai
Here's IBM doing it too. But I'm sure you'll shift the goalposts further because it's just a "dust cover" instead of some impenetrable line of defense against mythical damage that never happens.
>>52187547
>600E
>legacy free
Just give it up grandpa, you don't even know what the term means and it's way past your porridge and bed time.
>>52185263
The first three or four versions of OS Ecks were terrible. Coincidentally the last three versions of OS Ecks have been terrible. If Microshit hadn't fucked up with Win8.x and 10 Apple would never have exceeded 3% of the desktop market, thought they only made it to about 5% even with Microshits fuckup OSs.
>>52187634
I never said the 600 was legacy free, I just said even those designs that were still covered their ports.
Having trouble reading through all of that anal blaze? :v)
>>52187679
>pins on the connector instead of the cable
it's just asking to get fucking bent and damaged
>>52187694
Usually the pins don't get damaged, that's what the shield is for. And having a local PC recycler/store I've seen no small amount of dented and crooked shields over the years.
>>52187694
You'd think, but pretty much all designs recess them into the system, covered or not, and even then they're usually quite sturdy. The most damage I've ever seen to a D connector is maybe a slightly twisted metal outer sheath that's easily bent back with pliers.
Also, here's the back of a PowerBook 170 showing covers (though the plastic cover is missing on this one) being used even on designs that feature entirely recessed, D-Sub free I/O, something Apple would continue doing until the iBook. Aesthetics and keeping dust out was a pretty big upside of them too.
>>52187001
yes, the iphone is the reason why android phones suck. Also, normies.
