This is my first time building. Almost bought a Dell XPS.

As a newbie, I keep questioning myself.
Is the mobo good enough?
Is the AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor worth it? (I want to go with AMD because they seem more cost-effective than Intel.) I'm wondering if I should step down to the 8320 to save money.

Advice on a case would also nice.

Not Pictured: Old/Unused 2 TB Hitachi hard drive that nobody was using

Sorry for being a pleb.
>>
>>52185229
What do you need 16 Gb of RAM for? Also, do you REALLY need an SSD? You should consider removing that first if you want to save money.
>>
>>52185321
Would 16 Gb of ram impact performance negatively if it doesn't use more than 8?

I figured since I won't have to pay for a HDD, I could splurge and get an SSD. A lot of people seem to love theirs and I didn't want to worry about upgrading for quite some time.

Thanks so much for your reply, all feedback is much appreciated!

Update: I'm taking your advice and jumping down to 8 GB
>>
>>52185229
For a case you could probably get something on the cheaper side, in general the corsair 200R is a pretty decent case, i have also heard that the HAF 912 is also good.
>>
>>52185962
Good choice, unless your doing intensive video or photo editing you don't need more that 8gb
>>
/g/, I've been considering building a new desktop for workstation purposes. At home networking and server work, programming/compiling, photo editing, film editing capabilities for the future, large processing capabilities for using all of Office simultaneously, etc.

Any tips on builds I should be looking at? Gaming builds seem to be too focused on graphics. Would prefer SSD and 16GB of RAM.
>>
I'm buying a second hand Ivy bridge setup from my brother, for around $550.

i7-3770
8gb DDR3
2x 1TB Seagate drives
Some 80+Gold 550 Seasonic PSU
SilverStone Fortress FT03

Didn't want to buy his old GTX 760 as I'm planning to stick a R9 380X 4GB on this. Am I being jew out on this and should I ask for a cheaper price or is it a good deal?
>>
>>52185961
>>52185321
Never read into it much but is SSD really not worth it? I have the standard small system SSD and big data HDD setup and I kinda like it. I would go for a single drive in my next build and was thinking big SSD would be worth the money.
>>
>>52187289
it's not worth for how much it costs, your hdd should be enough. and if you're on a budget it's definitely not worth it. SSDs do help, but not a reasonable in your situation
>>
>>52187289
Don't listen to them, if you're planning on gaming or any disk intensive applications you'll heavily benefit from the upgrade.

Ok let me rephrase my question, would it be wise to save a couple of bucks by getting an Ivy bridge for now until intel or amd releases something that has significant improvement over the past releases? Game performance-wise it performs roughly the same as an i5-6600.

Things I'm still debating:

-PSU: is the hamburg good enough, or should I go with a corsair CX500?
-monitor: this one is highly recommended but I wonder if there is a better one for the price
-case: I may cheap out with a zalman T3, would it be enough? it's not like I have high end parts anyway.

It's the best card for the budget and since I am uprading from an 8800GT build that's plenty of power for me.

>>52187871
You can't afford to build a computer then.
>>
>>52187879
>runs any game better than any console
>can crank settings up topretty much max in most games if you're fine with 30FPS (which is the standard anyway for consoles)
>only costs slightly more than a console (monitor not included since that's not part of the build and I'd get if for a console either way) but is also a PC

You don't need 4k 60FPS to enjoy a game senpai.
>>
>>52187924
>better than any console
>same framerate and settings as console

ok
>>
http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/gdF3rH

main use is gayming and some schoolwork, not sure about gpu and psu
>>
>>52187930
consoles can't run The Witcher 3 at max settings 1080p at 30 FPS. Consoles can't un GTA V at max settings 1080p 30 FPS. Pretty sure if you put GTAV on console settings you'd get 60FPS on this build. A 750Ti + i3 can run games on PS4 level and a 950 is decently more powerful.
Besides games are free on PC so I'm gonna make back the price difference like that.

I did my research senpai.

I read the new Thermaltake Hamburg 530W is shit, it used to be good but now is produced by CWT and apparently it's shit.

What's a decent chepish PSU around 500W? Would the Corsair CX be good?

Yo, ma nigga.
I want to build completly passive build, without a video card, but I have Intel Core i5 4670K @ 3.40GHz, huge case that is no problem to be bolted to the desk if needed and huge room that the PC will never leave, so I can put humongos passive heat sink on it that goes out of the case, the fucking aestetics are no problem either.

So any recommendation on well known passive components or should I just build DIY one ?

i7 6700k
32GB Patriot DDR4 3000mhz 16CAS RAM
Thermaltake 750W Gold
MSI Gaming m5
EVGA SSC GTX970
Samsung 950 PRO 512GB
Samsung 850 EVO 512GB
WD Red 2TB
Thermaltake F-51

It's been a blast so far. Mainly used for photo editing.

Looking to get a decent gaming setup, my old pc just shit itself and it will cost more to fix then it's worth. Trying to get this down to around $1500-1600 cad (1100ish usd), not really sure what to cut. I threw this together in like 20 min.

Looking for an upgrade from my laptop for gaming. Want to build in µAtx since I don't want a fuckhueg tower on my desk.

Mainly 1080p gaming in ultra 60fps the recent AAA titles and this should be good for some years imo. Feedback/tips?

How can I cut down on the price of this build? I've noticed that there are some smaller Canadian retailers like MemoryExpress that PcPartPicker doesn't factor in.

I saw that some 6700k's, new, boxed, sold on eBay for 400$ CDN only 2 months ago. But there's a shortage or some shit going on, right? I don't really need it, but part of me wants to see if I can get it at or nearly at the price of a 4790k.

Photoshop and other utilities is the primary application of this PC, so I'm also looking at X99 boards and a six to eight core processor. That would bleed me hard, though, no? My budget is between maybe 1000 and 1300 CDN monopoly money.

Seems like this is at least $125 more for the CPU and Mobo. That scares me. I don't know if that would be worth it for me. Right now, I pretty much only play TF2.

Now, I did want to be able to not have to worry about upgrades for a while. But I still have doubt the performance would be worth $125 more than just going with AMD. I don't know :/

DONT get the Hamburg
XFX 550w for budget builds

Get a 128gb or even 64gb Sandisk Ultra ii ssd, you dont need 250gb at that pricepoint
Get 8GB Ram

Rest is Ok-ish. I would rather buy CPU/MB used. For that price you should be able to get a 2500k which is way better for the usual stuff

I'm having trouble recording 4k gaming videos. No matter what compression settings I use it lags really bad. I have 16GB of ram, would 32GB help or is this a HDD speed thing. Using one 3tb drive for storage.

Hey guys. Replacing my old build (picture related) since it caught on fire. New build specs

>NCase M1
>ASRock X99e-ITX a/C
>Intel i7-5820K
>2x G. Skill 16GB 2,400MHz 15-15-15-35
>Intel Series 730 480GB SSD
>SilverStone SX-500G-L 500W PSU
>Noctua NH-D9DX i4 cooler

I'm debating between either an ASUS GTX 970 Mini and two 3TB HDD's, or one 3TB HDD and a GTX 980.

Also contemplating an AIO CPU cooler. What do you guys think?

>Don't often play too many resource intensive games, worst currently is Elite Dangerous. Resolution is 3,440 1,440. Do photography very often, most files are 50MB each. Same for my expanding music library, approximately 50MB each.

Unless you have a $10k workstation with more SSDs and Quadros than you have hands, you're not going to be able to work with uncompressed 4K videos. No joke, a 10 minute uncompressed 4K video can go as large as 1TB and require NVMe SSDs to be able to handle the bandwidth from capturing the video.
A PCIe3 x4 SSD are usually fast enough to handle uncompressed 4k @ 30fps, but you're fucked for storage space since they usually hold under 1.2TB.
Check the settings on your capture device/software and make sure that you're using some form of compression. A regular SSD with at least 440MB/s sequential write is the minimum for most compressed 4K videos.
>>
>>52201926
Using compression I am getting 8GB a minute but the video stutters pretty badly.
Cpu is a 5820k

I can invest in another SSD in a month or so..
>>
>>52191964
>it's mostly for dota 2 and tf2
Just buy a fucking laptop then.
>>
>>52202038
Look up SSDs and their sequential write performance. I think Anandtech and another site uses actual file writes to test their SSDs rather than some benchmark. Make sure that the SSD can sustain 450MB/s in sequential writes and no lower than 375MB/s sustained. TLC SSDs should be avoided for this reason.
