I agree those are all benefits, but if you're gonna be fair, point out the disadvantages too.

You want people to make an informed decision.

So glad to have 90% speed. That's almost 10,000 speeds per second.
>>

>>

>>52184708
>>52184683
Anandtech caved to their readers' buyer's remorse and pulled the article.
>>
>>52184667

That doesn't make sense. Not the failure rates, but the speed rating.

Most SSD's have a peak read/write of 500MB/s. The peak read/write of a WD Black is 150 MB/s. The HDD shouldn't be at 70%. It should be at 20%.
>>
>>52184766
>Most SSD's have a peak read/write of 500MB/s.

Actually, most SSDs are only marginally faster than HDDs in real-life scenarios.

Don't look at the peak read/write, but the sequential platter rating. That's why the caviar blue is actually faster the black in some scenarios.
>>
>>52184806

The peak numbers are usually achieved during sequential reading/writing, which is when those numbers would be achieved. Random read/write is where you'll see the most disparity, with most HDDs hitting sub-1MB/s speeds (http://www.anandtech.com/show/3981/western-digital-caviar-green-3tb-and-my-book-essential-3tb-drives-reviewed/4).

While an SSD would still maintain 100MB/s to 300MB/s (http://www.anandtech.com/show/7173/samsung-ssd-840-evo-review-120gb-250gb-500gb-750gb-1tb-models-tested/8).

That's the real benefit of SSDs. It's not the sequential performance, but the fact that the sequential and random performance is great. HDDs are really only good at sequential tasks, and cripple under random access tasks.
>>
>>52184754
That's a nice way of saying you made it up and threw on some tech review site name to make it seem real.

real tech question

I do audio production, there's a lot of disk reading and writing and it all happens very often
Would getting an SSD help stop program hiccups? Or would more RAM be a better option?

I see it this way: SSD total mass is 90% speed, so you only waste 10% of material to enclose the speed.

>>
>>52184379
I didn't fall for it.
I knew perfectly well that I wanted a both faster and more responsive system.
Not only that but I bought three, two for OS, one for games and all these loading times are so short I wouldn't even have to time read what says in those loading times.
>>
>>52187358
Ableton eats RAM like a mad man.
You dont need expensive ram but you do need ECC DDR3 which is the cheapest you can find.
You need storage for samples, and shit things get piled up pretty quickly.
1TB normal HDD would do.
You dont need SSD for audio production, but you need good CPU and audio card to cut down on latency and loading times.

it depends on the location. I live in California and we've only had outages when we've had really severe storms (and we've been in a drought for the past few years, so none of that).

I imagine in rural areas where infrastructure amounts to a pole with some electrical cables snaking through countless overgrown trees, outages are not that uncommon.

ITT: People who believe that a single storage component should increase processing power, graphical performance, display quality and swap speeds.

Reality check, you can pay the premium for an SSD which allows faster boot times, load times, data transfer times and back up times in the same way you pay the premium for a high end graphics card when a 750 does the same thing at lower graphics.

These threads are fucking awful.
>>
>>52187260
On Windows yeah, on Linux it's not really worth the money. Linux on an HDD is a lot faster than Windows on an SSD anyway
