What's the best linux distro that's simple, and just werks?

buntu?

what else, of cors
Mint Mate. It's fast, simple, works fine OOTB. Installing proprietary GPU drivers is just a matter of two or three clicks. Only a few Wifi chips aren't supported OOTB, but since Mint/*buntu have such a huge following, it's very simple to search for a solution. You won't get any of the shitty replies found on Google "wtf m8 just read the wiki faggot", then you look at the wiki and the info is either old or outdated.
LMDE MATE

Fuck linux install plan 9
Deepin, not trolling.

None of them. Every single distro, even the one that's supposed to be completely idiot proof, will have some kind of fatal issue that you will only ever be able to temporarily fix. Linux is not meant for the desktop

except thats wrong zorin fixes op right up

Sabayon
Vanilla Android. Except not really.

mint, or ubuntu if you're cool with spyware but want something a bit more popular

This or Mint. Avoid regular 'buntu, Unity is crap.
Regardless of which distro you use if you do more than web browsing and email, you will eventually have problems or run into something you don't know how to do. The best two resources for troubleshooting are:
1. Hope the Archwiki has a comprehensive page on the thing you're doing (it usually does).
2. Hope that someone on the Ubuntu forums has had the problem before and it's been fixed/answered.
Otherwise you'll have to dig up a decade old guide on won of the many out of date looking Linux websites and go from there.

PCLinuxOS

Chromixium looks pretty.
I use Xubuntu, but when I want help on a subject I find myself searching "archwiki {{subject}}" instead of "ubuntu {{subject}}" these days, as the Arch wiki is often much more comprehensive and educational than the usual top result Ubuntu answers.
Mint cinnamon, good looking out of the box. Mint is most popular, easy to use and come pre-installed with good software.

Mint is more popular than Ubuntu

You won't get any shitty replies found on Google, because the default browser is a shitty Yahoo rebrand with more ads.

Weekly calculate linux from scratch, KDE. It's gentoo with proper defaults and a few scripts (like cl-update). Just learn how gentoo works and alter your make.conf accordingly or it will use mostly binaries instead of compiling.
It's great. This is from the perspective of someone who has installed gentoo and funtoo before and compiled the kernel from scratch. One day, a glibc update broke gentoo (I had my files and dotfiles backed up, no big deal) and, instead of reinstalling portage by hand, I installed calculate and turned it into gentoo. Never looked back.
