I've been using windows my entire life. I've been using windows 7 since its release, when I switched to it from xp. Since windows 7's release, microsoft has released shit OS after shit OS. I've come to accept Microsoft is likely never going to release another decent os again, and that after years of clinging to the same OS, it's time to move onto anything else. (Except osx or anything made by crapple)
So basically, ive used windows 7 years, have a decent amount of experience with osx, and have 0 experience with linux. I want to switch over from Windows to linux, but have no experience. I'm fine with starting from scratch, but still want to be able to play vidya, edit vids, and produce music like I do on my pc. My main worries are compatibility, and just how much better or worse linux objectively is for
A) Music production (my daw is fl 12)
B) Video editing (im a vegas fag)
C) Gaming (I use steam becuz y not its ez)
What flavor should i look into, what should I research and familiarize myself with beforehand, and what should I prepare my anus for?

Objectively worse at either of those, since your choice of software is much slimmer. Better from the standpoint that you won't be dealing with MS bullshit.

Video editing on Linux is shit. Dedicated music production distros of Linux exist though because Linux sound is bullshit complicated. Also no good Dawson exist but lots of tiny programs that do one thing exist to make your own daw.

because there's totally a linux equivalent of ableton or anything relevant
besides, only people who can't make decent music are just bad at it and I have no idea why, fl is intuitive

What is the record player? Like brand/type/number?
Ubuntu. If you have a decent rig you can run Unity desktop (vanilla Ubuntu), GNOME, or Kubuntu for more FX and desktop tweaks.
For lower system resource DE, my favorite flavor is Ubuntu MATE. Xubuntu and Lubuntu are options as well but MATE just feels more polished to me.
Steam will work flawlessly on most distros, especially Ubuntu. There's a good DAW called Ardour I think? And video editing software as well. You can get all the software replacements you want, easily and for free through the terminal or software center. Good luck anon.
