Hey /g/

What's your opinion on ReactOS? Looks like Windows and isn't full of botnets.

Does it actually fool anyone into thinking Windows is running.

Windows look like shit though. People use Windows because they are too stupid to use something else for anything other than gaming or don't know why having a botnet is a bad idea. Nobody use it by choice because it looks good.

It's cobbled together with wine and is only barely functional. Genuinely surprised the russian government hasn't given them a huge subsidy yet though, unless the new cold war posturing is all a meme and the lizard men are in control everywhere.

It's still hilariously crap, even if it's much better than it was. I was excited about it almost 10 years ago.

Zorin OS also looks like windows 7, not win95 like your pic related
>>
It's in a perpetually alpha state and has been for years. There's no sight of a complete release anytime in the distant future, so how can anyone give their opinion on it?

It's also a rather pointless concept. Since it aims to be binary-compatible with Windows executables, this means Windows viruses will likely affect it. So what's the design logic here? There's no need to replace Windows with an alternative when said alternative doesn't resolve any of Windows' intrinsic flaws.

>Looks like Windows
It looks more like one of those fags you occasionally see in desktop threads that try to make Xfce or MATE look like Windows 95 but fail terribly because they're as blind as they are tasteless.

>>52174102
I know this is bait but seriously, classic NT looks far better than that tasteless tryhard abomination. Your computer should look like a professional tool for doing real work, not some little girl's facebook machine with some pretend hacker terminals thrown in there for damage control.

Also, two line input prompts in a terminal are fucking retarded, of course what should we expect from someone who only pulls one out to copy paste configs in?

I don't think you know what that word means.
Anons image contains no moe.

It's fun to chuck around in, I hope they get some sort of breakthrough so they get more compatibility. Some programs need specific dll files but sourcing them from a real xp install and putting them where they go in ReactOS does seem to work.

I mean, I agree that linux is better (I use debian) in almost every aspect, but if you seriously think that this looks good, you should try shooting yourself in the head twice.

Funny you should say this. I got a job recently and one of the first things I did was install Windows because I no longer had the time to waste on trying to get my OS to do basic shit. I needed the OS to work with my requirements the very first time i.e. not to require hours of debugging to get a conferencing headset to work or figuring out how the fuck to install some important program to do my job. Interestingly enough, I've also started paying for a lot of programs if they're good for what I need. The reason being as the joker says is: "If you're good at something never do it for free" and most of the free software out there fucking sucks (I would only use it if my time was completely worthless which is exactly what I used to do.)

I have shaved hours off my life trying to do simple shit on Linux by installing Windows which has probably lead to better performance at work, more money, and ultimately a better life. Can your shit OS do that?

Why would I bother arguing with someone that clearly hasn't used Linux at all and is basically shilling Windows for free?
>>
>>52173952
Not stable. Doesn't support newer Windows APIs. Very cool, but not usable. Windows is full of bad design, so it probably is better not to imitate the bad parts, anyways. Wine is probably a better solution.

I don't know why you guys find it so hard to believe that using software which has had proper money invested in testing and quality control could possibly not save you time and money.

If you have a look at open source philosophy, its commonly believed among developers that writing the code is good enough and that you deserve a big pat on the back just for doing that even if your code fucking sucks. As a result: we have people spewing up mountains of half-tested shit on Github while espousing themselves as open source developers and saying that they're protecting our "freedom" while their code just sits there because its buggy, it sucks, and has no documentation - this is the typical open source project.

Do you know the open source projects that tend to succeed? The ones that have had proper funding spend on ensuring that its not a horrible piece of shit which goes towards things like unit testing and documentation (things no one wants to do for free because its funny driving a high speed bus into a wall while you're on an autism binge writing code.) Your average open source project has none of those things. In fact, it is only when the software has grown to the point where it could function as a commercial arm (usually under the mask of being "non-profit" which is pretty much paying the developers to continue to keep ensuring it doesn't turn into a piece of shit, functionality similar to buying software anyway) that you could consider it a success in any shape and if the software manages to reach that point with a enough autistic invested, it functions virtually identically to a commercial company.

So I have established most open source software sucks and most commercial software is worth paying for. Also, please note that I am defining any project that earns money in any way as "commercial" which includes the majority of faggots who think they are more pure by accepting donations.
