The speed of C isn't just some magic. All the stuff that makes C a pain - it's spartan standard library, the million ways to fall into "undefined behavior", everything to do with pointers, the way the language doesn't even try to do things like array bounds-checking - is there because there are speed gains to be had from it.
It's a spectrum. Javascript and company sacrifice speed (often quite a lot of it) to gain safety and ease-of-programming features. Which is a good tradeoff for some tasks and a bad one for others. You can't have it both ways.
And we may call it /g/++
