I was really scared because the whole 3.5 memebytes came out because my card was already past return limit but I have yet to encounter any problems.
My cards is more than one year old and at this rate I will be able to keep playing games without problems until a card that can do 4K at 60FPS comes out and I can upgrade.

I honestly don't get you , OP. I have a 970 that I bought on sale in August (month of my BDAY) and I absolutely love my graphics card...It's a complete overhaul compared to my previous shitty 2001 thinkpad laptop :/ . It's all subjective I guess, and also based on your hourly wage/income tbhimom8

Anyway, in all my years of assembling PCs(as a side hobby for $), the 970 is the worst investment by far. It's performance is fine and dandy for 1080p but with games nowadays using tons of video memory, I just can't recommend it at all. I'd rather a 390 than that. Now that I think about it, I've never really liked Nvidia 300 dollar bracket. Last card that was worth it was the 670. Also, yes, vram can affect fps. Maybe by about 10 fps from 2gb cards to 4. Might not seem like a lot to you probably but I'm really anal about my fps. I hate dips and inconsistencies. Sorry for the random rant.

For most games if one is sensible with their settings and not /v/ tier "hurr durr every slider to max yolo!" you can get a reasonable 4k experience from the likes of a decently overclocked 390/970. Certainly running in the fps range where adaptive sync (either implementation) truly shines.
If you play games like CS:GO, LoL, WoW, SC2 etc. why the fuck would you need more than a GTX 950 or R9 370?
