I use mine for work for notes (keyboard/pen are nice depending on your preference and setting), checking stuff with a terminal and that spreadsheet crap (work as a systems engineer but mostly stuck in meetings).
Home is nice too. I had the previous gen Air for watching stuff over Plex and some casual games. I like the screen for both those things. Really convenient when I'm gaming too if I want to look something up without switching windows.
Its pretty expensive for what it is though but the poorfags in this thread can't grasp that some people have disposable income that they enjoy spending on things they'll enjoy using.
I'd suggest picking one up and trying it for a week or two. I returned the one I bought for the wife with no hassle.

One does not need to provide support for every feature available on the device. If I go and buy a Dell laptop and install Linux on it, and something gets fucked up, if I call up Dell and ask for support, they are fully in their right to say, "sorry, we don't cover that," and hang up. If Dell does not support Linux, does that mean that they should lock down the bootloader and only allow their laptops to run Windows? Or should they simply let the customer do what they want, and let the customer deal with things if things go wrong? Customers should not be restricted in how they use their devices just because you don't want to put forth the money to support whatever obscure thing they want to do with their device. My logic is that device manufacturers should not implement any kind of protections to keep users from modifying their devices. It is the user's device, and not Apple's. My problem with iPads and other iOS devices is not simply the fact that I cannot change out the OS, but that the OS available is unusable. It is ONLY capable of running applications approved by Apple. Indeed, it could be said that iOS does not have support for third party applications. Instead, it has support for first party applications designed by third parties, since ultimately, I cannot run anything without Apple's rubber stamp of approval.
On Windows (both desktop, and now phone), on Android, on Linux, on BSD, on even Mac OS X, I can run any application compiled for the device without having to have anyone's permission but my own. Why should I remove this fundamental freedom on any general purpose computing device?

I was given an iPad for Xmas. My desktop is for gaming and video editing, my laptop is a think pad solely for school and my other laptop is a designated torrented. The iPad is nice because it boots instantly. I can bring it to the kitchen for recipes or the bathroom to shitpost. I can watch Netflix in bed (TV is in my living room) or while I work out, I can check my email accounts and banks. It's useful and I'm happy I got it.
To sum up the argument, manufacturers should not try to restrict hobbyists. Microsoft may not support Linux on the Surface Pro, but that's not going to stop them from showing up to Linuxfest Northwest and showing off the fact that it can, in fact, run Ubuntu. Because whether someone installs Linux on it or not, in the end, they still sold a tablet.
