That's not as big a problem for USB3 which allows for more power over the bus. Of course, unless you're a pleb, you're probably running an SSD over it so power requirements aren't a problem with those anyway.

no experience with that particular model but I use those where I work to take the kids' temperature and the ones we have are very spotty. however, airport staff at HKG use them to take passenger temperature if you look ill so maybe you have to get a good one and the ones my school buys are the absolute cheapest ones they can find. it's only 5 bucks just get it and let us know if it's any good.
