Flipping burgers part-time...
:(
MIS here. Graduated at 23 making almost $80k. Great fucking field man.

My college only offers an associates in IS.
How far will an associates and a few certs get me?
>>52160665
Also, could you tell me a typical day for you. How much coding do you do? You work on servers? You on the phone?
>>52160681
I honestly have no idea how far an associate's will get you. Try your hardest to get an internship and a like Security+ or CCNA and you should be golden. Remember internships and degrees always look better than certs.

I been looking at jobs and been seeing ''Degree not required with 5+ years experience''. So it seems like IT is a place you get grand fathered in.

I landed a job as a Sr. Business Analyst at a fortune 500 company. In that role I do absolutely minimal coding and work with setters directly. I mitigate (by delegation) all internal vulnerabilities on about 20k servers and devices. I spend my day trying to figure out ways to show the In flow of vulnerabilities and increase remediation speed.

Oh yeah get those internships get that experience. Certs are only needed for management not really entry.
Bump for my fellow IS bros
Rejected at Geeksquad. Accepted at staples.

What qualifications did you have?
Not IS, IT/Business minor (same diff). Will be getting into a lucrative consulting position very soon. Still got a year of school left to go though.
MIS here, age 25, making $92k/yr.

Not far if I don't network. Marketing oneself is the hardest thing.

kill yourself

I can take a 9-incher no problem.

I have an IT degree, pretty much the same thing as an IS depending on the college. Though mine IS was more of a business centric degree.
Still I'm two years out of college right now. I've worked in two service desks since then. :)
That smile is because I realized I've accomplished nothing. Meanwhile I see classmates who are network engineers at fortune 500 companies that graduated around the same time I did, a semester off. I can't even use the excuse at went to a second or third choice school now.
Just have to keep going and trying to gain more knowledge and hopefully move into something better next year. I really hope so, please, please.

>Meanwhile I see classmates
Delete your Facebook account, dumbass, and then keep doing your thing. You will be much happier overall.
Got the degree last year didnt get a job untill bout 6 months back. £21k and shit shifts 6am 6pm rotating 2/5 working days a week every second week. Shit people and shit duties looking for new jobs right now hopefully will get something better in next few months
Don't have a degree, systems engineer in the one of the highest pay grade teams in a large software company. 110k/yr working remote from cheap as hell Midwest. My Bay Area coworkers are making 150-180k. I've made it very far without a degree and I feel I'm very lucky. I would have made it this far in a lot less time if I had a degree I think, given the same fortunate opportunities. I'm 35 btw.
