Surely they'd be able to recover from that immediately. It'd just cause some downtime until somebody noticed, which as far as pranks go isn't that funny.

If it's a web server you should just edit an obscure part of the website to say something really unprofessional. Update the description of the company on the "careers" page to something you feel is more accurately descriptive.

What kind of company uses a single Windows box as a server instead of renting one? I don't work in IT, but I thought pretty much everyone who only had a few machines had moved their hardware into data centers.

Incredibly true. Look at any store like Best Buy, their computers and registers still use software from like 1998 because the cost of upgrading hasn't become lower than the cost of all the fucking problems it causes.

I work with a lot of dentists who ONLY have upgraded to 7 because new dental software doesn't support XP anymore, and that's what's forced a lot of companies to upgrade, which always creates a ton of headaches because all their software licenses and disks are for XP and SQL 2005 and shit like that, basically incompatible with 7 and up without some major finagling, and there's no way their cheap asses are gonna pay for new software licenses.

Even worse is the fact that a lot of modern PCs, especially dumbass HP, are locked to Windows 8 or 10 on a motherboard level so you can't even just install 7 which has better legacy support.

Most dentists bought their x-ray equipment so long ago that the companies that made them have been defunct for a decade or more, so they have to have one single XP computer that exists solely for the x-ray to store images on which are then transferred to the network, and it's funny because the computers they use for it are ones they paid like $2,000 for a long time ago,

Setup the server to dial the company fax machine once per day, every single day at the same time, and to fax it a single page that has a simple message that we pick.

Nothing obscene. Just a random simple message that gets faxed every day, day after day, forever, so the people there are like who keeps faxing us this?

And they will never know that the server in their own building is sending it to them.

I work in a top 100 hospital and our PACS system still uses XP. The tech workstations are rocking 1024x768 VGA.

No idea. The system's IT infrastructure is a pile of hot garbage. I'm just familiar with Centricity Exam Manager on the PACS side. They have PowerChart, which in my limited exposure is a lot clunkier than something like Epic, which I prefer. Then again I don't really do any charting so I guess it doesnt matter. Navigating the hospital intranet is ridiculous, and their benefits management is spread across several different vendors and systems.
>>
>>52158653
PowerChart is a Cerner program. I wonder if the IT is the only IT the hospital has or if they are remote hosted.

>>52155321
Rename the Users OU to LUSERS. Its easy enough to fix, but will break user group policy within a day or two.

Or, don't be a twat and do nothing...
>>
>>52157223
I work in IT and I literally go to dentist offices 3 out of 5 days of the week. They're all still running Windows server 2003 for their workstations to connect to and using Mac servers to store their x-rays on. And now a lot of them are failing and blaming my company for it.
Dentists are a bunch of fucking plebs.
>>
>>52158911
That entirely depends on who handles user accounts. I work for one of the largest HIT companies and for most of our clients, only we can make user accounts.
>>
>>52155636
Enhance their server by installing FULL cygwin (32 bit and again for 64 bit),
Also install all those programs that claim your pc is broken and they can fix it for $.
Install gentoo in dual boot and leave them wondering where all the disk space went
>>
>>52158971
It will break GPO maping, if its scoped down to that OU. Permissions and twattage asside, it could bend things...

>Do you think their sysadmin is a retard?
Depending on the company they could well be. I've ran into alot of IT dept heads and sysadmins who were "promoted" to the new IT department in the early 90s because they were "good at computers" but really really shit at their original job.
>>
>>52159215
yes, most sysadmin isn't going to check their own servers for faxes

A picture of the model of fax machine with some technical details. It'll take them forever to figure out because they'll think it's some kind of automated test page from the fax itself.
