You know what puzzles me about new tech and the truck driving industry? Fucking rear view cameras. You already have an electrical line that connects from the tractor to the trailer so why not have it power a back up camera on the back of your trailer? They have a phrase "GOAL - Get Out And Look" that is supposed to remind you to actually get out of the vehicle before backing up. It's good advice but driving situations are fluid. What if I get back in the truck and a car pulls in right behind my trailer? What if some unsupervised kid decides to get behind it?
Not only would a couple hundred dollar camera reduce the liability claims for medical expenses and property damage in an industry that is required to have a quarter million dollars of insurance on each vehicle, but it would also make the job much easier. Especially with how those pick up truck cameras show your projected path when you turn the wheel.
