When did the CRT die?
>>
when LED and LCD displays became cheaper to mass produce.

I still think someone could make a "gamer-grade" CRT company for the modern age, sell them as high end items.
>>
After the billionth death of a child/elderly person crushing themselves trying to move them.
>>
CRTs started really going away around 2003-2005 when OEMs started shipping even shitboxes standard with LCDs

Why live?

Unless you're targeting the $10k plus range, no it wouldn't be.

Barium Glass production dropped and facilities closed after the end off mass CRT production, getting quality barium glass for the front of the tube would be an extremely expensive affair now.

Yes, you will.

SED is still commercially viable, just like it was in 2006.
The patents end soon...

Personally, I somewhat expect AUO to be the first commercial SED panel vendor, they already own FED but know it's not viable, as soon as the patents for SED lapse, they'll be straight on it.

You know when exactly?
Would be nice to have hope again.

IIRC the Nano Proprietary patents that killed the Canon+Toshiba deal expire in the next year or so.

Then it's another 4-5 years until what were previously Canon's (they sold them a few years back) patents for SED itself expire.

Well, as cool as it would be, at that point better ISP monitors and what not will be released.

unlikely, IPS hasn't improved in over 10 years.

We're still at 1000:1 static contrast.
We've still got the same motion blur problems with the panels.
We've still got IPS Glow

The only thing that has improved is the scaling and processing done before the signal hits the panel.

IPS really is, in the grand scheme of things, shit.

RGB OLED dies to quickly, it's good for phones that are replaced every 2-3 years, not for monitors or TVs though.
>Samsung and Sony RGB OLED panels are already showing discoloration
>LG went with W-OLED which is just a full resolution white oled (does a greyscale picture) panel behind an IPS LCD - essentially using the OLEd panel as the LCD's backlight.
>Samsung is moving to Y-OLED, using yellow with an ips/pls like shutter in front of it to make blue, instead of trying to use real blue OLEDs.
>Sony is bankrupt
