I remember the Netserver E60. Had a couple of them way back in the day. Dual P3 500, 4x 60GB IBM ATA drives. Good times.

So bonus points for that, only to be lost by a mini-itx board in a standard atx case. That shit grinds my gears...

Pull your front I/O cables taut. Tuck your fan cables in. Use that hole over the back left of your PSU (from this pictures perspective) to run your front USB connection through. Optional run the other front I/O cables through there too if they're long enough.

I came this close to buying a pair of 970s on sale today. EVGA reference models that would have fit under the same blocks as my current 670s. They were listed for $330 CAD, over $100 off. I took a few hours to think about it, came back, and the price had changed to just $20 off. Looks like Pascal and new blocks for my next upgrade.

My GPU is vertical, so I couldn't put one on it if I tried haha.. If it's not too heavy I'm sure it wouldn't matter, but yours seems like it would be due to the size.

Sweet. Feels /comfy/ knowing original system didn't die for the mod. I like the blue LED - modern enough to alert the eye of someone who knows it's not period, but the case is so retro nobody would suspect what's under the hood.

You should be fine with airflow. I run X5660 at 4GHz in an Addtronics. 2x80mm intake, ran hot, drilled sheet metal to accomodate 2x60mm exhaust directly behind NH-U12P dual 120mm Poofan on CPU, and I can't get it to go over 75C. The 80mm and 60mm are low-speed fans, maybe 50cfm in and 30cfm out. Maybe a few extra cfm from video card, to which I've ducted the lower fan.

For the most part it's your GPU holding you back, not your CPU. Unless you're playin low end titles (like CSGO/Dota2) don't expect to get good 4k performance on a 970.

I had to remove a GPU due to what I assume is my PSU shitting the bed. 800what's should be enough for two 7950s but the "random" reboots when under load have been becoming more and more frequent. Its stable so far with one GPU, I can only assume it has lost efficiency over the years. Too depressed to take another picture w/o the crossfire.

Dual 970's is right around a single 980ti plus or minus 1-2% in optimal scenarios. Keep in mind SLI is still not supported in all games and may never be. SLI is only nice when it works. You're truly better off just getting a single 980ti if 2160/1440p is your desire. Pic related is "optimal" SLI. Though even then the second card is only adding about a 60% performance increase. We'll see what DX12 brings for SLI/Xfire but the old statement still holds true for now. A more powerful single card solution is almost always better than SLI/Xfire.

Holy fuck you can run SLI 980ti's off a 750w PSU? What CPU are you using? I assume only small or no OC's.

>>
>>52157994
Thanks I've been eyeing the 980ti. That's the best card out atm right? Very true about games not supporting SLI... still I imagine they're awesome in some instances. If I got the 980ti would you recommend making any other hardware changes to match the GPU. More memory, different CPU? At least I'm ready for Oculus!

>>52158848
Just the GPU. 4690k is fine for years to come. 16 GB RAM is fine. And micro stutters with SLI are not cool. Seriously, don't do SLI 970's. A single 980 TI costs less and performs much better.
>>
>>52158070
Garbage case.
>>
>>52158770
5820k with 4,5GHz oc, no problems at all so far, PSU fan hardly revs up on load, these things are built to exceed the specs most of the time to comply with the ratings and stability demands!

Still would have taken a larger one if i knew i was going to end up with dual 980Ti in the end.
>>
>>52158983
Run linx+furmark. Pretty sure it'll exceed your psu capabilities.
>>
>>52159040
Not going to ask for trouble just for fun, i know well that there are limitations to this configuration, thankfully no game so far does put that kind of load on both gpu and cpu at the same time.

Going to get a new PSU when Pascal hits the shelves!

No.
Go SLI or stay in 1080p.
Wouldn't rely too much on SLI 970's for 4k gaming either.

It's awesome. Honestly SFX psu's should be like the de-facto standard for anyone building Mitx. There was a 300w version but wasn't modular. Got this Gold cert 450w modular version for $100. Pricy but worth it.

A review on newegg said the guy was running a gtx-970 and 5820k on this 450w so my pentium build should be fine for many years to come.

pic is my main PC
>>
>>52163586
That's fair, 450W with those requirements. I planned my build (5930K & 970) and got the 500W. I agree, SFX should be the standard. That's what's holding back most ITX cases I feel like.

Honestly, most single-GPU PC's don't even pull 375W from the wall. But it's still goo to have some headroom for the PSU's sake.

What do you need all the storage for?
>>
>>52163659
from top to bottom is 120gb boot ssd, 250gb ssd as dedicated Linux drive (for some reason when they share a drive, Windows keeps eating Linux's ethernet driver).

500gb SSD as dedicated game drive, 4x1TB harddrives in RAID 10 with that little controller, and a single 2TB HDD for storage. RAID is used as a mix of workspace and storage I feel needs redundancy.

The RAID setup and 2TB drive is backed up to an external 4TB.
>>
>>52163720
oh and I didn't answer your question. Storage is for games, I rip and encode blu-rays myself so a lot of movies/anime. Bunch of .ISOs. Pictures etc.
>>
>>52158799
CPU should cost more than GPU, it lasts more hardware cycles. CPU is 5+ years, GPU is 1.5-2, 3 at the most.

While not super fancy, I did try and set it up to easily take things out of the loop without taking most of it apart. Got 3 quick disconnects in the back that allow me to take the GPU out and run just the CPU, or take out both the motherboard and GPU if need be. What's also not pictured is the 240mm Monsta sitting in front.

I want to participate but I'm probably not going to be bothered to go through my elaborate PC startup procedure until at least 10am GMT. It's just too much effort when I have a laptop right here.
Also what's with this putting a figurine on your graphics card business? I've never seen it before (i only come on /g/ occasionally) but now I really want to do it.

Gave me a good excuse to go look at figurines on amazon I guess. Normally I'm not one for doing retarded shit with computer hardware. PC building and maintenance has the feel of a sacred ritual in my house.

I just can't help but think my (fairly plain looking) pc would look so much nicer with a K-On figurine sitting on top of my graphics card.

I've decided to become arsed to take a picture, it'll be here soon, I just have to shut the pc down, climb on to my desk, switch it off at the power supply, move the TV i'm using as a monitor and open the case.
