If a monitor has a refresh rate of 60hz

How can/does it display more than 60 FPS?
>>
>>52139436
Download more FPS Per Second
>>
>>52139436
look up 'tearing'
>>
>>52139436
fps-sync
>>
OP again. To that end, is it worth enabling V sync to cap FPS at 60 to reduce strain on the GPU?
>>
>>52139436

It doesn't
>>
>>52139462
lol
>>
>>52139462
Yes
>>
>>52139462
manually cap it. do not use v-sync.
-console max_fps 58
>>
>>52139902
Benefits?
I'm guessing it prevents uncapped intros and having to activate it with every game.

Ho ho retardant bait
>>
>>52139436
displays are updated pixel-by-pixel from top left to bottom right
>>
>>52139945
dont know about the intros, but it prevents the input lag introduced with vsync in a lot of games
>>
>>52139436
How can more than 24 fps be real if our eyes aren't mirrors?
>>
>>52139436
60hz displays can only show 60fps anything above is wasted in heat
>>
>>52139436
jpg allegedly compares refresh rates

G/ IS DYING

Obviously not.
>>
>>52139945
that would be -no vid

And screen tearing
>>
>>52139436
Yes but you get screen tearing.

the monitor will display the most recent frame sent to it from the gpu.
while more fps wouldn't make the graphic look smoother, it would reduce the latency.
>>
>>52141214
our eyes aren't real
>>
is tearing preferential to slow fps in fast paced games?
>>
>>52141861
still looks smoother in faster games.
>>
>>52139436
By overclocking the panel to increase your Hz output
>>
Does screen tearing always involve two frames or can there be more?

Once you got 100+ refresh you can't go back. I can't tell 120 from 144 but I sure as shit can pick 60 from 100+ at a glance. I would go so far to say that 60 to 100+ is as big of a jump as 60 is to 30,

Wish more TVs did 120 refresh. I play most of my games on my TV with a gamepad via a long HDMI cable. The only TV I got that does 120 is a Vizio. Love it for the 120 but my plasma has such higher picture quality I tend to play on the plasma more.

Hoping a 65+ inch OLED comes out soon that does 120 (preferably over display port) that costs under 5k.

>recently got 144hz monitor
>notice difference instantly
>even little things like mouse movement is satisfying
>improving at vidya, can read faster paced games easier
>cant go back to 60
>>
>>52144717
I agree, i'm just saying 120 to 144 is not noticeable
>>
>>52139446
First Person Shooter Per Second?
whats that?
>>
>>52144733
that was from 60 to 144, havent seen 120 personally
>>
>>52139436
monitors don't show whole individual frames, unless you have vsync on (even then not really)

go watch some slow motion video of a monitor
>>
It should also be noted that for the vast majority of games, for each frame, it is not only displaying output but listening for input, along with perhaps using frames as an internal clock. For example, until recently in Dark Souls II, weapon durability decreased at one rate for those getting 30FPS, and twice that rate for 60FPS.

But usually, more frames = more accurate respose to input, which is part of the reason people say not to enable vsync, which locks the game's framerate to the monitor's refresh rate. AFAIK only very very recently have games started independently polling for input vs displaying output, and that was with a Quake-like FPS called Reflex, which is extremely fast-paced and would probably benefit the most from such a separation.

a lot of games have game physics and game mechanics depending on the amount of fps.
especially true for PC ports of console games, since consoles usually introduce a fps cap.

I think tes oblivion engine (and all it's asset packs, ie f3, skyrim, fnv) was especially notorious to having the game physics dependant on the framerate.

>>52144752
it's basically the same.

also if you play FPS games try strobing. you can do it only down at 120 but it looks nicer for any rapid movement.

>120hz
