This is my third pair of this headphone, they each failed after long usage, and this current pair is experiencing the same. I like that they have surround sound, which doesn't sound too bad, and the microphone quality is good enough for talking to my friends.

Today, the headset has started to making this weird crackling noise every few or so minutes. This crackling noise last for half a second, and then audio will cut off for up to three seconds, and go back to normal. This can happen twice (one after another). Just a hour ago I was playing vidya and on a skype call with a friend, where the crackling noise got worse, to the point that it go off, audio would cut, then the headphones would disconnect (windows USB disconnect sound). This went on for about 15 minutes, and the cracking-usb-disconnect shit went on constantly for two minutes until I unplugged and replugged the damn thing.

In short, I need a new pair of headphones.

I buy them because they're genuinely the best headphones I've owned. picrelated are now 7 years old and going strong, replaced the earpads (leather ones wore out after 2 or 3 years).

Since then I bought a Beyerdynamic DT770 and was really disappointed. Highs were veiled, bass was nice and they sat comfy, but the plastic on the side chipped after 6 months. Not to mention they cost almost double the price of my K121.

Recently I got my second AKG headphones, a K612, and these don't disappoint either. Comfier too since they're over-ear compared to on-ear. The K121 are great value and indestructible at 70 USD, but pretty damn uncomfortable if you have a big head.

Is the AD700x an adequate upgrade or is it worth it to go full AD900?

My budget stands around $100-$200, but preferred not to go over $150 unless I can justify it. For casual music use, mostly movies and games, and very much prefer open style headphones.

I have fairly cheap Pioneer AV receiver and was wondering if it would work as amp for the headphones or would it be better to buy a separate headphone amp?
>>
>>52139745
Kay dumbass, get out.

>>52139804
Most AV receivers aren't well suited as headamps. A common and cheap way is take a resistor and and stick it before the speaker output to the headphone jack. This stops the amp from shredding your drivers, but it results in frequency response error with most headphones. Planar magnetics are the exception, as are dynamic in-ears.
>>
>>52139952
why?
not even trolling here.
I suppose I should have bought other headphones, thats like the only reply you guys know.

>>
>>52137432
Fiio e10k or smsl 793II (SPDIF ONLY)

Don't overspend, you are basically paying Yo~ for a volume knob anyway.
>>
>>52139745
You bought earrape trash. Price doesn't indicate quality and DT880s are better than those, just to pick one Beyer to compare them to. And yeah I'm quite sure an HD 650 would've been a better option. Or K702 for that matter.

Hifi is not a meme. Your headphones are quite far from Hi-Fi though as they are inaccurate as fuck past upper mids.

>>52139804
Risky. Output impedance can be really high on some receivers and this can result in problems in frequency response and damping.
>>
>>52140058
Yeah thats the response I expected.
I heard the same shit about about 880's, 990's.
If I had bought 650's people would have bitched about them being snapheissers, its a fucking joke.

Like I said, no matter what you buy people here will ALWAYS bitch your choice, kinda funny. I also like how most professional reviews say they are fine but no! a random anon said they are trash so it must be true... :^)
>>
>>52139999
You are trolling and shitposting, but I'm bored enough to reply.

You have to figure out what you didn't like about your current gear and what you like, instead of blindly assuming a random headphone is better than what you already have. A rec doesn't mean anything if there is no knowledge to base it on.
This is something people don't seem to get when they fill out the advice template. We can't know what you want just based on what you owned.

Right /g/.

I need some new headphones, I'm struggling to choose.
I'm looking at the Sennheiser HD 558, the HD 598 and also the AKG K702.

I do not have a DAC or amp.

Which ones do you recommend for gaming and rap, hiphop and pop music?

My main priorities are the sound having plenty of bass, but also being comfortable.

Thanks!
>>
>>52139136
Yes they're circumaural, not supra aural. The EVO is better for gaming, though.
>>
>>52140258
K702 need an amp, the HD558/598 may need an amp in certain circumstances. Overall I would say that the K702 is better for any music genre (especially acoustic), but as for gaming most people say that the HD598/558 are great. How much do they cost in your country?
>>
>>52140294
These prices are all from Amazon.
The K702s are: £144
HD558: £160
HD598: £130

I though I might be able to get away without an amp, but that doesn't seem true... I'll be using the onboard sound on a Asus Hero VII motherboard.
>>
>>52139467
The AD900X is better for the money than the AD700 as well as the 700X. Buy if you're going for "casual music" listening rather than whatever the fuck else it'd be, maybe sticking with your AD700 would be an acceptable choice, especially if they're working fine you impressionable consumerist dipshit.
>>
>>52140314
HD598 is probably the best choice, it looks like you don't need an amp for them

The Sennheiser HD598 SE that I thought it was a steal during the Amazon's black Friday sale came out disappointing. Honestly my old 280 PRO sounds better than it (in loudness aspect), quality wise it's the same. It's just isn't that loud compare to my 280 PRO

-Is it too quiet?
-Is the output impedance too high (fixable by equalization)?
-Is there noise/EMI or hiss to it?

If the answer is no, then that is your answer.

Amplifiers affects these parameters, and not much else.

What wireless headphones should I buy for my mum? It's mostly for watching movies in the living room. Budget is unlimited, but anything over 200€ would be wasted money.

I'd go with Plantronics BackBeat (or some Sony MDRs) but all this bluetooth stuff seems to be for cellphones only (no BT dongle?)

Reduced damping coefficient has its effect on the transfer function, but is corrected by EQ. The driver experiences less internal friction, but the time and frequency effects from the speaker can be adjusted for.

No ever complained that the so-called "damping factor" of a multi-way speaker is usually much lower than 8.

>>
>>52140116
You should do some research before jumping into a purchase. For a person new to these threads the "snapheiser" shitposting and shilling is out of hand and confusing to say the least. I have one tip for you; learn to read measurements and understand basics of psychoacoustics and signals. They'll give you an objective view of how the headphones perform. You don't need to come here ask for rationalization for your purchases or listen to the actual paid shill reviewers on the internet. You'll have an actual understanding of the subject which isn't even that hard to grasp on the surface. There's a lot of information even in these threads after you scavenge through the shitposts, more in the wiki and heck of a lot in the link to mega in the wiki if you are interested.

>I also like how most professional reviews say they are fine but no! a random anon said they are trash so it must be true... :^)
"Professional review" without proper measurements of the gear is as good as useless.

Anyone here have tried the piston 3 ?

Testing them atm.

So far i've noticed the highs are so much more defined than in other cheap headphones i've used.

The bass really needs equalizer setup to come out though. Using a bass equalizer preset and a +5 on bass on n7player (android) and so far it withstands it and sounds pretty good.
Chink songs are maybe too high on some places, maybe i'll switch players because it really sounds better on foobar2000 on my pc.

By the way i'm a bit worried because the controller bar doesn't have the "dot" in the middle button , it has the correct cable lenght and everything else seems fine so most likely i won't bother refunding.
I also seem photos online without the dot and i heard there's a 2015 version, it's such a mess.

Got it from ebay, but it was a reputed seller, he already sold like 300 piston 3 so i guess if he sold fakes he'd be busted already. Also 20€ so it seems legit on that department too.

Pretty sure it's not the youth edition since the pics i've seen from that have 3 separate buttons with arrows printed, mine is flat.

I've heard fake ones have 3 linear bumps , mine just doesn't have the dot bump neither the 2/3 linear ones.

Just like the pic i posted on my first post.

It depends on your device of course, but my experience with listening to my K7XX's unamped while plugged in to my 15" MBP is that they can get loud, but the sound is underwhelming. The sound they produce when plugged into my E10K is quite noticable - it feels considerably more full well-defined. Straight from the macbook I felt like I was hearing only a portion of the song.

The problem is that I don't know what other terms to use. Describing experiences is hard.

It's pretty well established that increasing a device's output volume isn't the same as using a proper amp. I'm pretty sure that's what I'm hearing, more than the E10K's DAC. Onboard DACs have been more than adequate for years now, and MBPs even do a good job of isolating audio circuitry and preventing electronic noise, but onboard output power is still anemic, especially on laptops.

simple. once we have quantum computing, it should be able to design a perfect analog driver. actually never mind, that would be pointless and inefficient. it would most likely design an electrical system to put audio into our mind through our nerves. actually never mind, that would be pointless and inefficient. it would most likely devise us a way to leave our body and become digital, so that we literally are the music, since time would not really exist for us anymore. actually never mind, that would be pointless and inefficient. listening to music wouldnt really be possible at that point anymore. you would be able to hear the whole song within the smallest possible span of time, at any time.

I think I unlocked the Fidelio X2s or something, this bass is fucking insane!!! Its like having small subwoofer in your head, with extremely minimal distortion or loss of clarity in bass notes, I at least couldn't even hear any loss, but I did if I pushed it any further. Obviously it depends on driver lottery but I can't be alone in this.

Wtf philips, why are you holding back on the bass?

(ofc for hours on end it will get fatiguing since it sounds like youre at a cinema)

Heres my graph, and I listened to metal/prog music and 5.1 trailers for reference.

Get the damn HD 650 cable. It's a lot better than the HD 600 one.

>>52145699
Some IEMs are so sensitive any output will cause massive hiss using them. There are also models which are really susceptible to output impedance. Getting a DAP or using a DAC/amp setup for them is completely fine.
>>
>>52145751
>with extremely minimal distortion
lol
>or loss of clarity
how do you lose clarify further in muddy shit

also good job not reducing preamp gain for overhead, i'm not sure if your post is bait or you're genuinely this fucking retarded.
>>
>>52145619
>Was thinking of getting an o2 dac/amp
Do eet. Make sure you have the low gain at 1x if you intend on plugging IEMs. Get one with 1x and 2.5x gain settings if you are thinking of the combo.
>>
>>52145564
Voltage divider. Do eet.
What's your IEM anyway?
>>
>>52145797
Yeah I figured I'd get an response like this. You really need to hear it to believe it. X2s are not muddy btw, sennheiser are (loss of high treble and boomy bass)

And as I said, the EQ is for a cinema feel, without sacrificing sound quality, but ofc you need to adjust it for your own pair of X2
>>
>>52145919
>sennheiser
>boomy bass
wait i just noticed the filename of the image nvm
>>
>>52145751
>those fucking inaudible half db gains
Now that's fidelity
>>
>>52145968
Inaudible? wat are you even on about? Can't you srsly hear half a db change? 1db is a huge step imo!

>>52145961
At least my modded 518 sound extremely boomy compared to the X2s, and muddy(or smooth if you wanna call it that)

And the filename is no joke, the bass will rape your ear and it will not faulter, mids and highs are not sacrificed, only your ears.
>>
>>52146016
it's really too obvious now, try next thread.
>>
>>52146030
what? who am I trolling now? pls srs tell me. And why do you think a pair of 100$ headphones would stand a chance against a 300$ pair? You should really consider quitting hpg

Are the dt 990s a good open ear variant for someone used to dt 770s?
>>
>>52146103

im just saying your taste is a perfectly example of someone who has absolutely no taste and needs others to tell him what to listen to

since you have no taste in headphones you probably got told by others to get m50x, so it will match up with your taste in music

i am just stating the obvious
