Today I snatched the last KUL ES-87 with MX Greens in Europe.

I would feel very proud but I already have more Keyboards than any normal human being would buy in their whole lifetime.
>>
>>52117469
the numbers being under the symbols on the top row instead of next to eachother where the LED actually emits from. same with the < > ? ; ' [ ] keys. all aside from those, it would be perfect.
>>
>>52125641
Clacks are worth it honestly. If people wanna pay that much, it clearly makes them worth that much. I bought one for 23 dollars brand new and a week later sold it for $85. Should have held onto it :^(
>>

What even is that. Just a single keycap? What?
>>
>>52126289

It's a line of 'handmade' keycaps from one user on GH.

Because the guy restricts the sale of keycaps, the price of them is stupidly high.

It's a fucking joke now.
>>
>>52126460

Well yeah, they're artisan quality caps, and that makes them the best. You wouldn't want something that isn't the best, right anons?

How smooth are the switches on a SteelSeries 6Gv2?

And is it just the reviewers on amazon or does Cooler Master really ship faulty products
>>
>>52125641
>>52127127
Some people have more dollars than sense.

The caps are likely placebo-tier although I can't say for sure because I'll never try them.

Last year (December of '14) I bought a new Das Model S with MX Browns for $112, now if you go and look up this keyboard it sells for $140. The demand mechanical keyboards has been going up plenty over the last several years. It looks like keycaps are no different if they fit some niche market.
>>
>>52127311
>How smooth are the switches on a SteelSeries 6Gv2?

I have SS 6gv2 with blacks. I don't have any complains about the switches or the keyboard body.

The only real problem with that keyboard is non standard layout. It's not ISO or ANSI.
Finding full keycap sets for 6gv2 would be nearly impossible. Or you will have to skip Enter and Spacebar.

Yeah keyboard-fags are entry level audiophiles.

It's pretty hard to jew someone with UNIQUE and PREMIUM tactile feelings so jews have pretty limited options with keyboards.

I just got my first mech keyboard for christmas today and it's pretty neat to type on. Two questions I had:

1. O-rings, they kind of muffle the click noise on the keypress, right? (I've got MX Reds, so there's no switch click, just the noise of the key bottoming out.)

2. Is it worth the 5-10 bucks to get one of those key extractors if I'm going to be adding rings/switching out keycaps?
>>
>tfw you purchased three skulls from a first time buyer only group buy on GH and then sold the caps on ebay 3 years later for over 100 dollars each

WASD v2.png
210 KB, 1142x440
>>52127698

My WASD v2 w/blues has the red O rings on it and they do quiet it down a little bit. The click is still very audible, but it sounds less plasticky when bottoming out. It makes the cheap WASD caps feel much better when pressed, as well. More dense and solid.

I would get a key extractor if you plan on fiddling with the keyboard, yes. No sense in breaking a cap or, god forbid, a switch. If your mech is backlit, a broken switch will be a real pain in the ass to fix.
>>
>>52125667
How do greens feel? I'm trying too move on from my buckling springs and I've been debating between alps or mx greens.
>>
>>52127953
Okay, cool.

One other question, I've heard people mention that there are keycaps with tops that aren't the high-edged, 'cupped' shape. I liked that my old keyboard had keys that were fairly flat surfaces. Is there a special name for keycaps like that I could search for?
>>
>>52127767
Hi friend. I've used multiple identities to buy and then resell so called artisan keycaps as well as normal but rare sets. If there's a group buy for exclusive caps I'll get in even if I'm never going to use them.

People are so stupid and prices are so inflated that I've made thousands of dollars from selling these tiny pieces of plastic.

This might help you out a bit.

If you want mostly flat with minimal curvature, DSA caps are probably going to be the best bet and the easiest to find.

Signatureplastics (AKA pimpmykeyboard) has these types of caps in stock.

The F and J keys are "deep dish" so that you can find the home row easier. But the rest of the keys are mostly flat topped, and the profile is flat from row to row.

Blacks are perfectly fine.
There are some obnoxious fangays of the loudest clicky blue but there's absolutely no difference in quality of switches. You can't say that one switch is better than another. It's all about your own preferences.
>>
>>52128530
But blues are horrible for gaming. It registers on the uptake. So a red, would be "better" at gaming. Not really a preference, just the facts.
>>
>>52128746
plenty of starcraft players praise blue switches and some pros use them too, brown and blue are the most popular among RTS players

PING!, BOING!, ZING! - actually just the same ringing tone, with varying degrees of loudness, when releasing the Back Space, Enter, and other keys in that general area. Also, being a pro gamer does not prevent you from having bad taste and/or getting sponsored.

Nothing really compares to buckling springs. MX Greens feel nice, but they just don't feel as sturdy or solid as a buckling spring switch. I think that if the slider was a larger diameter or the stem was larger, it would have the solid feel of buckling springs.

Buckling springs = finely machined industrial equipment

Cherry MX = well made consumer electronics

Pic related, my Model M.

What's the best 'basic', full-size mechanical? Not interested in gaymur ricing bullshit, or volume knobs, or macro keys, or whatever. Just a work keyboard, preferably with brown switches and preferably under $100.

It seems like all the keyboards I look at have flames and retarded red LED lights on them and I don't want that shit.
>>
>>52130138
No problem.

Gons's stuff is nice, but you can easily pay 600 bucks for a full keyboard that you assemble yourself. Seriously, I once considered it myself before I found out how good topre feels.

>>52130155
Because you want something that happens to cost more than 250 bucks.

I recently noticed that once you're into something, the pricetag does not become a matter of whether or not you're going to get it, but just when your budget will allow you to get it.

alright /mkg/ serious question.

I got my first mechanical for christmas, and it's absolutely great. I average about 95 wpm on kailh blue switches. But that's only using 7 fingers, because for some reason I never realized that I developed the awful habit of never using my left pinky. I'm going back now to re teach myself how to type the proper way and I'm down to about 70 wpm with quite a few errors.

Are there any quick ways to get myself back up to speed and hopefully faster than before? perhaps an online typing speed trainer that you all would recommend?

(also any info on how to train myself to not bottom out so hard would be great)

I have the idea that a slab of wood is 5$ and you get the joy to sand it and paint it yourself for free.

PLUS you'll get all the hipster jealous with their mass produced wooden rests.

Will I have a metallic reverb if I get a Ducky 0 with 100% Blacks?
;_;
>>52136423
A slab of wood is $5.
A few nice slabs of wood is a bit more but still not much.
A few nice slabs of wood and a planer is a bit more.
A few nice slabs of wood, a planer, and a table saw is more.
A few nice slabs of wood, a planer, a table saw, stain, assorted sanding paper, and some wax or buffing oil is even more.
Plus I don't have experience doing this.

The POK3R is shit anyway, the build quality is terrible, if you want a good quality board then just buy the Leopold FC660m (2015 edition) standard keycaps, arrow keys, dipswitches, better functionality and an all around better keyboard.

It's the right choice.

>>
>>52136476
wow nigger

packaging is usually bought wholesale, so it's very cheap for the business (so that's fucking pennies for a bubble mailer, box a dime or two depending on quality)

tracking is usually included already, USPS first class for example is the service I use the most for my business

shipping insurance depends on the cost of the item, so I doubt it was anything over $1-2

Soooo, that's: $2-3 insurance, $3-4 to ship the item (i really fucking doubt a few switches weight that much) and $1-2 for packaing

That's less than $10.

The only reason those niggers jew is because they use overpriced UPS/Fedex

Packages are always treated like shit so, fuck them.

Will be like that fir 2 or 3 days, then it goes through customs etc.

Depending on how shit your coubtries mail is, this can take awhile. When I send stuff to America, after that point it usually takes a week.
>>
>>52137290
>Depending on how shit your country mail is

it's pretty bad yeah, I usually use UPS for national shipping.

Funnily enough, I wrote the load balancing rules for their package tracking system (which unfortunately can't fix the fact that the application itself is shit) as they are one of our clients.

Also Italian customs are known to be shitty, take long time and try to spill money everytime. Hopefully the seller didn't forget to declare 10$ as value ;^)

I mean, how could a keyboard cost 220$ anyway? right? ;^)

>>
I'm curious what makes a company decide to go with a non-standard layout. What are the positives of doing that?
>>
>>52137939
Paying lip service to the gaymen crowd without actually doing anything useful.

I'm guessing it's just their design department that thinks "We could make the windows key smaller so people don't accidentally press it" (as if that ever happens). It's not really a feature significant enough to be advertised, so they just do it and leave it at that.

Gaymen keyboards with non-standard bottom rows aren't really designed with the enthusiast community in mind, so they don't give two shits about aftermarket keycaps.

All in all, I'd say it comes down to someone having a stupid idea and everyone else not caring or being just as stupid. Something that happens far too much. (I'm looking at you, Ducky).
>>
>>52136793
The switches, sure. But it's mostly about keycaps and the keyboard body. I see no reason why that can't work.
Also I think I'm confusing terms. I want chiclet keyboard I think. Basically, I like the aestetics of separate flat keycaps and small travel distance.

Nothing in terms of layout. It's just the part where they put the dip switch to disable the windows key on the bottom of the keyboard or the DPI changer on the bottom of their new gaming mouse.

It's not really a huge issue or anything, I just kind of wonder what they were thinking when someone suggested that they'd put those things in the least accessible spot possible and everyone just went with it.

1st keyboard: Cherry MX Board 3.0 with browns + the wrist rest : About 80 bucks

2nd keyboard (curently using this one): Ducky Shine 4 with clears + vortex doubleshot pbt+pom translucent keycaps (see pic related) : 150 for the keyboard, another 40 bucks for the shipping because I wanted ANSI for muh aftermarket keycaps, 40 bucks import tax. Then another 45 for the keycaps + shipping. So almost 300 bucks in total.

3rd keyboard (waiting for this to get shipped): Dark HHKB with blank keycaps. 225 bucks for the keyboard and another 5 for shipping (EMS shipping with full tracking and insurance, sasuga Japan). It seems that the vendor is quite willing to declare it at 10% of the actual price, so I'm guessing I won't get my ass torn open by import tax this time. 230 bucks in total, will probably be my endgame for quite some time.

I don't understand spending hundreds of dollars on keycaps. Mine were like, $30, and that feels like too much for a portion of a keyboard.

Do you people spend so frivolously short-term because you lack the ability to think in the long-term?
>>
>>52141140
You got a set of granite for 30 bucks?

>Do you people spend so frivolously short-term because you lack the ability to think in the long-term?
Spending long-term is kind of difficult if you're only paying for something once and then it's yours. I'm not really sure what you're trying to say here other than the fact that you're being pretentious and that you're bad at it.

I think it's quite the opposite. People spend a large amount on keycaps since they will then last them quite some time. Or maybe they just like mechanical keyboards and keycaps that you can put on mechanical keyboards and don't really care about the price in the first place.

I have a feeling that the latter is the case with most people (me included). Keycaps aren't always cheap, and if you're into this and want a set of keycaps, then the price becomes rather irrelevant quite quickly. Not everyone feels the same about how much they are willing to spend on something.
