>>
>>52125830
Personally I like testing, since packages are fairly up to date. Testing in my opinion is stable enough for average desktop and it doesn't have critical bugs like Sid version.
>>
>>52125948
The brown/orange colour you have in quite a few places doesn't fit in.
>>
>>52125900
when i used stable there were old, buggy versions of apps in the repos.

I must say I'm really starting to love the Awesome + Compton + Xfce combination.
Workspace switcher and clock is on the top (awesome) bar. Bottom (Xfce bar) has the following from left to right:
1: Whiskermenu
2: File tree
3: Quick screenshot tool (I also use shutter)
4: Network monitor
5: Logout/shutdown etc
6: Notification tray

Normal awesome can't have all that yummy stuff on the bottom, and it's still WAY faster than straight Xfce with Xfwm.

Titlebars are very useful and serve a very important purpose in maintaining efficient UI flow in floating WMs, even for keyboard users, but it's not worth explaining to an autist like you. One day, you'll grow up and be able open your mind to new things without throwing a baby duck fit, but today isn't that day.

By the way, if you are concerned with screen space, the first thing to go should be all padding, such as that in your terminals and panel, and full-width bars that are more than half empty.

This is most likely a custom CSS style and startpage. I'm not the author of this specific CSS, but visit userstyles.org and nanami-tan.info for some info on how to do wondrous things with your startpage and visual appearance in Firefox. Mind that it might take an inexperienced user about 15+ hours to create a custom page or CSS, or up to 3-4 hours to figure out how to use someone else's.
>>52127843
There are some features that compromise privacy, but overall there's no actual tracking by Mozilla, you can opt out of everything and it will actually stop tracking. I know a few addons which should handle most of the tracking. Didn't double-check it via Wireshark though.
>>
>>52127927

>Titlebars are very useful and serve a very important purpose in maintaining efficient UI flow in floating WMs
Not if you have a hand by a modifier key. Which you should, assuming you are right handed, your left hand would be resting on the mod key even when using the mouse. Meaning it's simply faster not to move the mouse up to a titlebar, and instead hold a mod key and drag from any position in the window. Right click can be used for dynamic resizing.

Close buttons and minimize buttons are also far faster to keybind. There's really no functional use for titlebars. They're great for aesthetics, I use them solely for that personally.

>if you are concerned with screen space, the first thing to go should be all padding, such as that in your terminals and panel, and full-width bars that are more than half empty.

You're right about that. Obviously, I wasn't talking about myself. But a few people seem to be under the impression that titlebars aren't a waste of space.

Sounds a bit to me like you're the one having a fit, dude. I was just stating a fact.

What do you mean? Firefox with e10s is compatible with most old addons that weren't specifically updated for this, and it works differently than Chromium, at least when a userscript hangs, all pages that use this userscript will hang, which is not the case with Chromium, meaning they behave at least somewhat differently.

A modifier key bound to intuitive actions will only get you as far as moving and resizing. What happens when you double left click the titlebar? Right click? Middle click? While dragging? You have buttons and modifiers on your mouse, and you need a special area of the window where they are guaranteed not to be bound to an application function if you wish to use them to manage windows. And what if you want to use a modifier key and a mouse gesture inside a program? Windowing systems should steal as few actions as possible.

Then use the windows key modifier. No program at all worth its salt takes it, because it is already reserved on Windows operating systems, OSX does not use it and it is extremely commonly used as a modifier or start menu button in Linux. I seriously doubt you will find a program that will take the win key modifier. Personally I use the win key modifier for hotkeys on my windows partition and I've never encountered an issue. Even if a program were to take the super key, it wouldn't work with or without my keybinds due to the start menu.

As for double click, these are all things that can be done with modifiers. Win + Double click. Win + Right click. Win + Drag. In almost every popular WM these can be defined as separate events and bound.

>>52126560
you're right; the border was for something else entirely. looks much better gone

Theoretically AutoHotkey (which is for Windows only) might be able to do that. I didn't try it, but it should work.

Yes. Working fine on openbox, using mod+doubleclick to toggle maximize windows.

Ah, i don't think it would work because it has to open a full X display. You're best off just using the windows build in screenshot function. >>52128441

Not bad, but colors clash and mismatch. Try changing window side borders to have the same color as bottom and top borders. Also, lack of buttons is not minimalism, it's emptiness.
>>
Technology newfag reporting in. Very rarely browse this board, but these desktop threads have always caught my attention.
Say I'd like to do something to my desktop like in OP's pic, how would I got about learning all this? I'm guessing linux is the way to start.

OP's desktop is stock OS X

Do I really have to restart windows every time I want to change system colors?

this is a huge deal IMO
