Why does linux look like such shit?
>>52122584
hello fellow redditor
edit: thanks for the gold guys!
>>52122584
>thinks this looks like shit
Mkay
>>52122584
isn't that how modern OS should look like? Minimalism, flat, no awful gradients, fairly neautral color palette
>synopsis
always hated that pretentious faggot term
can an OS possibly kill itself?
>why does linux look like shit?
>look at this wm from 1990 to prove my point!
>>52122584
>why does X11 look like such shit
Because X11 is a mechanism no policy driven UI who also is shit as display server.
Ignoring the VT subsystem mess, linux doesn't have to look like that.

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

shit tier typography

Actually 1987
>>52122584
Linux?
More like why does TWM look like such shit?
>>52122584
That actually looks nice in my opinion.
>>52123292
>default X fonts
>shit ties
Say that to my face not on the internets and see what happens
It doesnt, you're just a fucking retard.
>>52122584
Still better than Win8/10 and latest OSX
>someone posts obvious bait on /g/
>everyone takes it
This is happening at an hourly rate, now, it's gotten that bad.
Sage this shit
>no linux DE will ever look this nice again
Because X is outdated.
Look at modern android, no screen tearing, fluid animation good font rendering etc.
Once wayland is fully supported and in use linux will look much better
>>52123276
Wordfilter Linux to GNU/Linux
>>52123358
KDE 3 days were the best, before everything went to shit.
SUSE 10.X best OS in modern history.
>>52123639
hideous fonts
>>52122584
That actually looks really nice.
I want my desktop to look like that, but I don't want to give up the comfy xfce4 builtins I'm using to monitor battery life and networking.
>>52123639
Nostalgia'd, kopete and konqueror all day
>>52123358
Use TDE
>>52123292
Try looking at a system with infinality.
>>52123922
i meant specifically in OP's pic, not in general

TWM is still in most repositories and still works despite last being updated during the Reagan administration.
>>52122584
That's what Linux looks like?
>>52124182
It's kept around as a fallback in case you don't install a WM. It doesn't take up very much space so most distros just ship it with X and it has basically become the default WM for X.
>>52124213
That's actually one of the better Linux designs I've seen
Is there a GTK theme that will make applications look like they were written in pure X?
>>52124574
Yeah, don't install GTK
>xterm
Shit!
>>52123639
Looks like shit desu, senpai
>>52124574
are you retarded
>>52124574
You are not a very smart man, are you?
>>52122584
Why does windows look like such shit?
>>52124589
>>52124636
>>52124653
Obviously I mean applications that use GTK and are themed.
>>52122584
why does the window under the xlogo says macbook ??
>>52124670
When will they join the future and stop using terminal based operating systems?
>>52124845
perhaps it is running on a macbook? You can run Linux on a macbook, you could run all those applications and TWM under OS X with X11 as well.
>>52122584
twm and fvwm are cool
but they're unusable today
>>52124906
fvwm is still maintained tho, right?
I'd use it if I wasn't so accustomed to xfce and it's laptop plugins.
>>52124969
FVWM is still maintained, yes, but it's so archaic and complicated you might as well use something else.
>>52124888
thanks
that makes sense
>>52124987
b-but fvwm is my favorite!
>>52125054
that's ok anon
personally i can't figure it out, i use cwm instead
>>52124987
What's could be difficult about fvwm?
Do the fonts look OK, or are all my fonts going to look like shit like in all those ancient screenshots?
>>52125163
you're probably gonna get wildly inconsistent results if you use GTK programs on it for example
don't blame FVWM though, it's old
>>52124987
fvwm with fvwm-themes installed is pretty okay to use senpai
>>52125208
i hadn't heard of such a thing before, i'll check it out
>>52123356
Is that the artist I'm thinking of?
