What the hell is a "gaming" motherboard?
>>
It gives you the power to pwn other idiot goys who didn't buy a proper gaming motherboard.
>>
>>52119876
A gimmick to make money.
>>
Same as other gear just a worthless buzzword to charge a premium for the same thing.
>>
a mobo that looks really cool
>>
>Maximus VIII SupremeFX eXtreme
>>
>>52119940
>thought this was a joke name
>notice that's actually on the mobo
>want to die

why has the pc community gone to shit, /g/? I never asked for any of this

You need one to take advantage of gaming RAM.
>>
>>52119959
Technology has just become more accessible really. There's a wider range of people using this stuff and someone is willing to buy that immediately and have some poor soul at best buy put it together.
>>
>>52119940
shut up jelly nerd, it's Republic of Gamers Maximus VIII SupremeFX Extreme, okay?
>>
Gaudy motherboards that are actually quite good on the hardware level. Decent audio chipsets, good VRM section and chipset heatsinks, but like OPs pic, they look terrible. Not to mention they love branding words like "gaming", and "extreme" all over the board.

I use asus z97-AR. All of the good mentioned above with no stupid plastic covers and minimal branding.
>>
>>52119876
Just a way to color coordinate your gutz bro.
>>
>>52119959
That's not the name, lol.

It's an ASUS Maximus VIII Extreme, ROG is the product line and the SupremeFX is the name of the onboard audio hardware.

Aside from that, while the marketing is a bit gaudy, the boards are very good. Anyone who says that the ROG series of boards aren't one of the best out there is in denial.

High RAM capacity, multiple spaced PCI-Es to support a pair of GPUs, space for larger than average heat sink.

Not rocket science.

It's a buzzword and the only reason I got one is because the on-board audio is separated from the rest of the board. Hated the static my old Asrock gave me when under half load.

Correct.
>>
>>52119876
it's a motherboard with options for overclocking and the hardware to provide more voltage if necessary.

Cheaper mobos don't let you do this.

They're pretty much the same nowadays.
>>
In practice, something to steal money from idiots. In theory, they're incredibly high quality motherboards that are good if you're doing a 3-4 SLI and or heavy overclocking.
>>

>that slot
I was wondering why my new pentium would not boot for a whole day.
It was because I did not push the CPU home.

I know this is all opinion. And the "gamer" board may look like a toy to you, but I personally find it a lot more asthetically pleasing than this. Idk. Just looks more clean. Anyone else agree?

- black color PCB
- gigantic heat spreaders with cool logos on them, also LEDs!!
- tons of lies printed on it so you think it's a premium product
- usually unstable since the BIOS and various other components are not how the chip designer expected them to be
- Usually dies within a few years because it ran out of designated specs

usually better cooled stuff, more material on the board, of course, backplate (this is actually neat), better looking and so on.
basically >>52121779
>>
>>52122474
Mostly marketing gimmick, but you also get some neat little features for easy overclock. Nicely spaced pcie slots too.
>>

Unique heatsinks and generally a black or red PCB.

Has support for DDR4 ram and the latest PCIe standards.

That's it.

Late reply, but yes using HDMI should fix it. To me however HDMI wasn't an option as my speakers and headphones both require analogue input. Besides I was looking to retire my i5-2500k so a motherboard upgrade was pretty much necessary anyway.
I ended up buying the MSI Buzzword 5 by the way, a rather nice mobo with a lot of options to play with.
