were SSD's the single greatest thing to happen to the modern desktop computer?
>>52112397
No, that'd be the mouse.
People who think ssds are a meme are literally bumfuck retarded, they're meant I put your OS on to make it super snappy, they're not intended to store large amounts of data on over long periods of time
>>52112424
No, that'd be the two button mouse with a scroll wheel.

Also, saging again.
OS/programs - SSD
Storage - HDD
Scratch disk - Raptor/SCSI
What if I don't care about boot times? Do SSDs become a meme then?

This
>>52112608
No you're just a faggot weeb that has nothing in his basement dwelling life so time is no concern.
>>52112608
you literally have a limited I/O on mechanical drives
nothing can change that without going to SSD
>>52112608
if posters say SSD will be a life changer and that you cannot live without them that is meme-like, doesn't change the fact that they offer benefits like quick access of different storage regions
Who cares?
SSDs still can't compete with HDDs in dollars per gigabyte

Guess what nigger my ocz vertex 60gb only writes at about 80mb/s sustained but its still going strong. SSDs have come a long way since then. My samshit 830 120gb still runs roughly to spec.
At least try to find some recent data.
Run a quick and inaccurate SSD benchmark using hdparm, then post results. Replace /dev/sdd with your SSD drive obv.$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sdd
/dev/sdd:
Timing cached reads: 27562 MB in 2.00 seconds = 13793.76 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 1558 MB in 3.00 seconds = 519.32 MB/sec
This is a cheap Transcend M.2 SSD I've had for over a year.

Just then be concerned about the shelf life of the OS ssd you're booting from. It's now not Windows 7 slowing over time it's ones and zeros routing away. Panic now.
