Is there a single laptop worth spending ~1600 on right now?

The Thinkpad X250 looks the best and seems durable, but super expensive performance wise.

The new Dell XPS 13 looks good but in comparison it's flimsy as shit and the screen is a bit wobbly = no go.

Macbook Pros are nice of course, but the current model is old and nothing new seems to be on the horizon.

Is there ANY current laptop worth spending money on at the moment?

If you're going to spend that much on a laptop, what I think would be the better option would be to build a $800 desktop guyming rig and then buy a $800 laptop.

macbook pro

This is always a good option but may not fulfill your needs.

Anyways, there are always machines worth spending money on. The question is do you truly need a new laptop right now? Purchases shouldn't be justified just because you're willing to part with 1600 for the latest and greatest. Those two options you listed are dangerously consumerish stuff. It's probably better to save some more and look into business laptops or gaming laptops.

Yes - I have been using a 2012 11" netbook for months now. Compiling stuff and running local servers suck and JS-heavy sites crawl. I have no space for a rig and I'm mostly at uni.

Any suggestions?

Grab an XPS 13 or rMBP. Either way dual boot Windows and linux.

I run linux exclusively. Those aren't viable options though as I mentioned. I was hoping for suggestions I haven't looked into extensively, maybe HP or Asus.

Right now Thinkpad X250 is in the lead.

I'm still using my 11" from 2011 for compiling (C, Java), server shit (nodejs, apache, postgresql, mongo), VM and some gayming... still does the job and don't plan to upgrade.

What do you use linux for "exclusively" that cannot be done in OS X? If you're spending 1600, there isn't a better laptop to spend that much money on than a rMBP. Adjust your budget and buy something else with the money.
