all the cool kids are using Sublime Text 2 these days, so I'm wondering if I should learn it and use it over my current editor (vim)?

A text editors only goal is to make your life easier. So depending on what you use it for, a different answer exists.

If you know wim and have set it up then there is no reason to change. Sublime text have less of a learning curve and looks more modern.

If you're really proficient in Vim, you probably won't want to switch to anything that isn't Vim. If you want to learn something different, Sublime's multiple selections are 90% as powerful for 90% of real-world tasks and much easier to learn than Vim keystrokes.

Neither Sublime Text, Vim nor Emacs are better than any other. Sublime Text and Emacs require less practice than Vim. Lots of people like modal editing like in Vim. They're all plenty extensible. If you're using a purely text environment, like a terminal over SSH, you wouldn't use Sublime Text.
There's just a tier of editors that are more productive to use than nano or gedit or Notepad++ or VS's editor or what have you. Sublime Text and Vim are a couple of those.

What am I missing out on?
I already use vim frequently when in ssh and gave it an honest shot for switching to it as my main code editor but could not see any obvious advantages after using it for a few weeks vs sublime.
The only time my hands are exclusively on the keyboard is when I'm in pure terminal such as ssh.. and I already use vim it for that... Giving up desktop integration when writing/maintaining large code systems is not what I'd qualify as an advantage.
