I had this discussion when my family members got me a laptop as a surprise a few years back and the lesson I learned was to just roll with it because it's gifts.
People put high value in gifts that are more than $20 for one reason or another, regardless of monetary statuses in their family. Logically, they may understand, but they'll still be pissed off because they feel like you'll be missing some kind of emotional point behind the gift they're giving.
I know for some families it's whatever, but for others, gifts are like the messiah of shit. You don't regift or return shit unless you know for a fact your family is cool with it.

The Note 5 doesn't have a microsd slot, nor does it have a removable battery. Those two factors made the Note line GOAT - without them, it's just a phablet with a stylus. No reason to buy one at all over a Note 4 really.

Just attach a small pendrive or one of those specialised micro sd card holders. I've used the Note 5 myself, and that UFS 2.0 they used makes it very much worth it - with actual 5x to 6x storage speed it's was really worth it selling my old Note for that one
