Starting my first year of Software Engineering on March. How would you use the time until then to get a head start?
Learn data structures and do some light java coding. That'll take you through junior year.

I've already been doing some Java coding, mostly Android apps, but also scripting certain tasks to save time. I'll look into data structures

For my Software Engineering program, the first year was all engineering basics (calc 1/2, linear algebra, static/dynamics, physics (electromagnetism)) with only a couple of classes being being SE related, which were basically intro classes. I don't know how your classes progress, but if it's first year engineering, you'll probably be taking these type of basic engineering classes.

Well, it's not CS, it's software engineering, so the first year will probably be mostly math
Where did you find a dedicated software engineering program instead of a software slanted or just straight compsci program? In the whole UC and CSU system I've looked at, just one CSU has software engineering and the rest full compsci, aside from UCSCs gamedev program.
