If it's your first, go Ubuntu (derivative like Lubuntu or something) and rice the shit out of it.
Debian if you're more experienced.
Arch (with or without archboot/architect) if you muh customization and lightweight stuff.
Gentoo if you like the memes and the package manager.
Slackware if.. hell, I don't know. I don't think it's a very good idea for beginners to use imo.

If you require proprietary firmware during installation, it can be a bit of a pain to obtain them.
I know you can use the netinst image, but it's just annoying having to go and find the appropriate .iso deep inside the Debian website.
That being said, I think I'm going to go install it now.

Not quite. 4chan promotes choice of identity. The option to post anonymously is often misunderstood: you can be as anonymous or as identifiable as you so choose. That's why there's a name field in the first place! Moot has some great talks and write-ups on this topic.
I happen to think you're a prime candidate for tripcode adoption. Even just a name would be satisfactory. The stars are aligned and the cards are right. Give it a try!

Did a fresh install on a new hdd and have been setting up 4chan X, how do I get ctrl+s to give me spoiler tags again (I have keybindings off, but it's not stopping it from opening the save feature) and to get post quotes to open in the post they're quoting?
