Also highly highly depends on your area and cost of living. All the high paying shit is in silicon valley where COL is ridiculous. I took my degree into management and make more than anyone else who graduated with me. Not much of a tech market in southern LA aside from industrial stuff that's impossible to get into.

>>
>>52096676
The truth is, if you're competent and have a few side projects under your belt, any company will hire you in the campus interview.
But that requires you to be actually interested in tech and not just be a CS grad who's there because his parents told him, "i heard CS grads make a load"

>>
>>52096792
>What's an example of side project?
if you're a CS student side projects can be like a web server or your own algorithm for doing something, but the really impressive ones are electronics projects. Companies have a dire shortage of people who understand software AND hardware, if you even have basic hardware experience with your CS degree, startups will be sucking your dick, they dont want to hire too many people, but a few talented people, and you fit the bill.
People usually overlook the importance of side projects and experience, but even if you are a 2.7 GPA faggot, but have enough experience, you just might get hired
>>
>>52096804

PHP is the only one in that list that wouldn't qualify as a meme language.

the only way someone could get an offer of $160k prior to graduation in this economy (even on east/west coast) would be if they were NATIONALLY known for how much of a genius they were.

they would have to be in a top tier ivy league school (and graduated early from it), and worked on major projects that are having a real impact on society, not some bullshit internship. OR, they have a family connection and didn't even work for it.

we aren't retarded. anyone who has been in the market for a few years knows that is complete and utter bullshit. that's basically the top 0.25%, or higher.

It really depends on the industry. Media/Advertising and small tech companies pay a little less but they're not drowning in compliance agreements either and people are competent for the most part. If shit doesn't work then you gotta fix it, if things work you look at cats all day. For example, everyone has this week off as a holiday but I'm still supposed to make myself available to wfh in case things go wrong.

You're also expected to do more with less nowadays and wear tons of hats so to speak, I manage all the laptops, the NAS servers, the routers, the switches, the conference rooms, the phones, email, cloud based services.

On top of that I also work with developers to automate server provisioning and code compilation, that's the fun stuff that gets you treated like a golden fucking pony. Look up stuff like ansible, vagrant, docker, chef, puppet and learn the ones that interest you.

I report directly to the CEO, I have "unlimited" sick and vacation days that I take as needed, I can WFH on short notice if I need to.

I know that if I maintain a solid skillset I can go to another company for 10-20k more per year

OP, you need to ask 'where' when you ask 'how much'
100k in California is much different than 100k in the midwest.

47k in the midwest

Great starting salary but I was roped into configuring software rather than developing it. I would take a pay cut just to be able to developer software around here.
>>
>>52111198
I've had a lot of technical interviews and usually done pretty well. Actually I'd say algorithms and data structures are a strong suit of mine but no, probably not quite as well versed as a real CS grad. I guess I wouldn't really know though.

Usually the people interviewing for web dev teams know less about data structures than I do so it doesn't make a real difference in most interviews.
