Maybe you can enlighten me, but why the hell do you guys buy these big ass bulky coolers for your CPUs? I mean, in my experience the stock OEM cooler has always been more than sufficient to keep the CPU cool unless you are overclocking to retarded levels. Doesn't those big ass coolers fuck with the air flow in the case?

>maybe b8 but I'll bite

Stock coolers of today are nothing. They usually are just enough to handle the chip at bone stock and still be noisy while doing so. My i5 is barely overclocked. (4.4ghz @ 1.2v). Stock for this chip was 3.5ghz @ max of 1.050v. This small voltage increase was enough to make the chip exceed the stock cooler during gaming load let alone super intensive loads like encoding would do. My big bulky cooler dropped temps by 35C and is much quieter. "Crazy" overclock would be pushing 1.4v+

>Although a "stock" cooler from the Pentium 4 days using a bracket kits to fit lga 1150 would make a kick ass cooler.

As for fucking with airflow, no. So long as you set up the fans i nthe case and o nthe cooler properly so there is no conflicting airflow, everything is fine. In the OP's pic, the big fans on the bottom pull air in from the bottom of the case and feeds the CPU cooler which then vents it out the top. Silverstone case If I'm not mistaken.

Anyhow, actually early to guts for once! Filled all 8 drive bays edition

how are quad 2gb 680's holding up in current gaming? What resolution do you play at? I remember wanting a 690 so bad but found out that you could get 2 standalone 4gb gtx 680's for half the price of a single 690 (which was only 2x2gb 680 chips).

They do for the mATX version
Here's to hoping they'll do a proper mITX version. The bracket for the PSU can also be smaller.
It's a decent case that rivals the ncase m1 in functionality. Just don't ask how I got that cpu cooler in there.

Case is a housefire waiting to happen. Because of size limitations you have to mount the radiator in the front, but the problem now is you can't put intake fans in the front because the radiator blows against the front panel and reflects hot air back inside if you put a fan below it.

I'm running a shitty antec 650 cooler, I've been thinking of upgrading to some noctua cooler or maybe even a 212 evo, that way I can load the front up with at least 2 intake fans and cooling problems will be a thing of the past. Right now my R9 390X is going up to 86c under load. It drops to 75 when I take the front panel off.

Not a good case for liquid cooling. Looks cool but I wouldn't buy it again.
>>
>>52090045
>I've been thinking of upgrading to some noctua cooler or maybe even a 212 evo
Do it. I have no clue how closed loops have become so popular lately. They're louder than air coolers because of pump noise and don't even perform better. At least a custom loop has benefits.

My other compoopers. Upper one is collection of old parts, recently upgraded its C2D E6750 to a C2Q Q8300. Overclocked it to 3ghz, got 8gb of DDR2 for it and today an SSD. Before, it was using an old SATA HDD from 2006, Battlefield 4 would struggle to keep 30. Now, with the SSD it runs at 60 (vsync, 40 in clusterfucks) with high settings. GPU is an old 7870.

Very happy with the results.

>>52090105

I fell for the meme. I don't really mind the loud noise but this just isn't very efficient at cooling the CPU and most importantly it messes up the airflow.

It would be fine if you were using a cooler that actually worked properly with the case's airflow. As is, you've got both the rear fan and AIO as exhaust, so obviously it's not going to work that well.

Some manufacturers like EVGA and corsair have their own cable kits like those. Also cablemod and some other places sell them. You can also buy extensions that fit on the ends of your existing cables. They're not as expensive, and if you do good cable management they can look great, but some people really hate them.

>>
>>52091170
I said you can, not you should.
>>
>>52091154
Not that I know of. I assume it's because they know their 120mm SP fans are their best sellers and they don't want to cannibalize sales on them. Makes sense, but it's really shitty of them.
>>
>>52091170
The little bit of resistance it would add is absolutely negligible unless you're pushing an absolutely exorbitant amount of power through them. Odds are that 95% of people aren't. Extensions are perfectly fine.
>>
>>52091305
They also add inductance.
I'm just saying you should be aware that the delivered voltage at the end of your cable will respond slower to current changes and be lower then what the PSU is producing. It could be the cause of a vague problem that causes resets for example.
But hey anything to show off your guts :^)
>>
>>52091341
It can also fuck with the ripple and cause shit overclocks.

>>
>>52091551
>>52091577
No, it's simple physics. That's how any PSU would work. Shorter cable = better. Thicker cable = better.
You can sort of view inductance as cable length and pretend electricity has a speed (not literally true). The feedback to the PSU is slower if you have longer cables so it doesn't respond fast enough to your needs, causing rippling. This is analogous to physical control systems like a PID controller that gets it's feedback too slow.
Longer cables also mean higher resistance because more cabling to go through and also the connector in between.
From an electrical POV it's incredibly bad practice.

>so cool but mismatched colours make me sad
RAM light and the waterblock light are actually the same at full brightness, but Cougar Vortex PWM only come in orange and the Define S *barely* has room for the 140mm in the back that only that specific 140mm will fit with the Swiftech rad. Asrock's light blue makes me sad too though.

My reasons:
- looks
- silence

I suppose it's a good cooler too but yeah the stock one isn't that bad either

I think you would be fine if it had more VRAM. I often see useage at ~2.8GB and even getting over 4GB on certain games in some places at 1440p.

Did you have any issues with installing the radiator?
i heard about some people complaining the holes don't fit properly for the h100i

What do you think of my ~400€ build for use in my dorm? Made it since the percentage of desktops stolen in dorms is way way lower than laptops, also it's very hard to steal something bolted to the ground (will lock the side panel with a padlock too.) Not only that, but it looks like utter shit from the outside, I even put the AMD Athlon sticker on it.

>inb4 GTX 950
It was a really good deal at the time I bought it and it over clocks to stock GTX 960 levels, also its really silent.
>>
>>52102265
Doesn't that stuff makes it hotter?
Looks p good but wondering if it makes the case warmer then normal
>>
>>52102293
It's basically armaflex, but it shouldn't make it hotter since there is quite good airflow, since there is a mesh in the front, which will get a 120mm fan in a few days time. I mean I guess there could be a few degrees difference, but considering the temps others get with the GTX 950 mine does not go not one bit above, and it's overclocked, the X4 860K does go to 80°C when under a stress test, but it is also overclocked and the cooler for it is not a very high end solution, the stock cooled ones go to 90°C, I should see much better temps when I put an EK Vadar in the front, but in the end, it's very silent even under load, a 60FPS in all games when medium-high and all that for the price of a console.
>>
>>52101607
Nope, it was all fine as far as I remember. There are two sets of holes on the mounting bracket though, so it's likely they just didn't use the right ones and complained about it.

The 250d was pretty much designed specifically to fit the h100i perfectly.

well having my g3258 with a noctua c12p se14 is great
i haven't seen it go above 40oC yet, and that was after 6hrs of prime95
might start oc'ing later

Yeah. It's HEC based, and a bad one at that. Higher end Thermaltake units are pretty good, but avoid the lower end ones at all costs.

>>
>>52102053
Hi, I'm pretty sure the 212 comes with a clip to add a second fan. That or I used one from a previous cooler, I can't recall.

I just upgraded to 2011. Had to buy a completely new CPU block because I was missing the fucking mount screws for 2011. But it ended up looking better so I'm happy.

Not so happy about horrible looking cables but I'm getting a buddy to 3d print me some cable combs.

You could get a 120 mm fan. You should be able to mount it.
Or just use it semi passively.

Nice, is that a LD case?

Also which way is your water flowing? If it's going up towards the gpu then I think you got your block orientation reversed. The port next to the sticker is supposed to be the outlet.

You need a case with enough space for it and a (semi) modular PSU helps too.
