How many languages are you proficient in?

Which languages do you currently practice?

Which languages did you drop and why?

Which languages do you want to learn in the future?

English, French, Hindi

Didn't really like Spanish, even though it was easy, Didn't see a use for it.

I'd like to learn Mandarin, and possibly Arabic.

croatian, for the lineage citizenship

You probably should have said that in your first post, fåm.

None.

>Survey Time
>How many languages are you proficient in?
None

>Which languages do you currently practice?
Python3

>Which languages did you drop and why?
C, was too impatient when i tried a few years ago
Java, every java program iv ever used has felt clumsy, its usually ugly as sin and the whole vm middlewear thing turns me off
Python2, when i first tried it i had just come off hating C, programming as a whole left a bad taste in my mouth
Perl, six quintillion parentheses per function, the horror

>Which languages do you want to learn in the future?
Picked up python again just to break back into programming, id eventually like to really learn a C type language to get close to the metal.
Maybe Haskell, looks interesting because its very different from what im used to seeing.
>>
>>52087587
>How many languages are you proficient in?
C++, Lua, Rust
>Which languages do you currently practice?
Javascript and Java(only because of job/uni, I hate them)
>Which languages did you drop and why?
When you are familiar with lots of languages, you don't really need to study new ones, but only check reference and just write in it. I don't "drop" them, I just currently don't have any project for them nor any will to learn them more. But I often come back to them when there is a need.
>Which languages do you want to learn in the future?
More asm and Lisp.
>>
>>52087587
>How many languages are you proficient in?
7 I know well enough to put on my CV (10 if you count assembly, VHDL and bash)

>Which languages do you currently practice?
C, C++, Python, R, bash, assembly

>Which languages did you drop and why?
JavaScript, Java, PHP, VHDL.

I don't have the time to do any side projects in them any more

>Which languages do you want to learn in the future?
Erlang
Some Lisp
Maybe Haskell
Scala or Clojure
>>
>>52087587
>How many languages are you proficient in?
2: C++, Python

>Which languages do you currently practice?
1: Python

>Which languages did you drop and why?
Not actively using:
Java: Never used it outside of academic contexts.
C: C++ lets me write less code that is more likely to be correct.
Perl: Python is a better choice for writing software; Bash + GNU tools easier for me to reason about when reading something I wrote a year ago.

>Which languages do you want to learn in the future?
Go, for professional competence reasons
Haskell, for fun
>>
> How many languages are you proficient in?
C, C++, Java, Python, Ruby, PHP, x86 asm, MIPS asm, ARM asm, Perl, Powershell, Bash, Scala, Erlang, F#, Clojure

Which languages do you currently practice?
I mostly use C, C++, x86 and ARM

Which languages did you drop and why?
I dislike python, bash and go

Which languages do you want to learn in the future?
I'm going to learn C# one of these days.
>>
>>52087752
Proficient in Java, Python, English, German and Italian
Currently practicing C++ and Smalltalk
Dropped French because it's a shit language with horrible rules and spoken by shit people. Temporarily dropped Scheme because I don't have the time to keep reading SICP this semester.
Want to learn Dutch, sounds pretty comfy :3
>>
Visual basic

C++

Python, C and swift, got a chance to try out Swift, but I'm not planning on developing anything for ios/os x, python is gay, I'm learning C++ instead of c.

JavaScript, might also learn others for work.
>>
C was my first language.

Later went into C++, VB.NET, C#, Lua, JS, php, Ruby, python, Java

Dropped ruby, vb.net.

I want to learn assembly.
>>
>>52087587
2.5 - c, c++, python
c++ and python
java - way too verbose and no pointers
whatever i need to do my projects
>>
>>52087587
real languages:
proficient: german, english, french
practice: english
drop: french, still able to speak it, though
future: esperanto, serbocroatian (was able to speak as a child)

programming:
proficient: c, rc shell scripting, various small unix languages, some lua, some miranda
practice: scheme, prolog
dropped: Java, C++ (pains in the ass)
future plans: myrddin, perl 6 assembly language, something concatenative
>>
>>52087587
>How many languages are you proficient in?
C, C++, C#, D, F#, Java, Python, Clojure, JS/jQuery

All I can think of now, so 9/10 I guess.

>Which languages do you currently practice?
For my company, C#, JS/jQuery. Clojure on the side. Hopefully soon C# will be replaced by Clojure in work.

>Which languages did you drop and why?
Java, far too verbose and stateful, annoying to work in.

C because, while I'm actually proficient at memory management and know what it takes, it's fucking verbose and a massive annoyance at least, a nightmare at worst.

C++ because memory management, but also the preprocessor is a curse upon this industry and full of fuckery, and the language's syntax is messy what with namespaces and method dereferencing. D is cleaner.

>Which languages do you want to learn in the future?
Lua for sure, Scheme and Common Lisp, Elixir, maybe Erlang, maybe OCaml. Ruby would be a curiosity given lots of free time.
>>
>>52087587
I guess I'm fine with Python and C#.
>>
>>52087587
>How many languages are you proficient in?
1. English.

>Which languages do you currently practice?
Practice? None really.

>Which languages did you drop and why?
Dropped Spanish cause I just don't care enough.

>Which languages do you want to learn in the future?
Germany, French, and Russia sound interesting but I don't have any plans to learn em.
>>
>>52087587

>Which languages do you currently practice?
C/C++, Ada, Python 2, x86 asm, PHP, JavaScript, Java, Perl, Bash
>Which languages did you drop and why?
Lisp: didn't care for (()()()()()))))
Brainfuck: spent too much time fucking around with it getting nowhere
>Which languages do you want to learn in the future?
mostly insterested in learning x86 better, might pick up haskell to see what the hype is about
>>
>>52087587
/underachievers general/?

>How many languages are you proficient in?
11

>Which languages do you currently practice?
natural languages, since we're all ostensibly e-peening here: english (native), mandarin(fluent), russian(literate, and conversational), turkish(literate and conversational), (the biggest natural languages in the world, and the ones that make learning their sub-languages easier) Programming syntax: Swift, Applescript, C, Rust, Google Apps Script, ECMAScript, Python, wow, just realising I'm not a total noob anymore

>Which languages did you drop and why?
Spanish, uninterested, C++, doesn't do anything as well as Swift, TypeScript, nice concept, but poor adoption rate, Go, for the same reasons as TS

Which languages do you want to learn in the future?
Whatever's good.
>>
>>52096102
probably a transvestite just bikeshedding and attention whoring
>>
>>52096504
>computer scientists: concerned with type systems, side effects, paradigms, etc

>programmers: concerned with available library bindings, performance, and platform support

>bosses of programmers: concerned with the language being object oriented in a way that keeps their hordes of inexperienced employees from stepping on each other's toes too much

>/g/: concerned with aesthetic issues like brackets and indentation styles

Bikeshedding is the proper word for it. /g/ mainly talks about brackets, syntax, and identation styles because it's non complex and everyone can contribute a opinion and be semi valid.

Any real issues will cause too much risk of being pointed out as incorrect or stupid if they're wrong / mistaken.

>How many languages are you proficient in?
C, C++, Python, Java, R.
>Which languages do you currently practice?
C++.
>Which languages did you drop and why?
Haskell, not enough time/reason to learn it.
>Which languages do you want to learn in the future?
Gonna continue with Haskell later. C# maybe. I'm not too sure to be honest, any recommendations? Preferably given as aggressive comments towards me, my family or to the languages that I already know.
