How to 8 pin DIN keyboard to conventional connector? I have a keyboard + mouse combo with a 8pin DIN (large) connector and I'm unable to find anything about how to convert it to ps/2 or USB.

Picture isn't mine, but keyboard has this exact plug.
>>
>>52085613
PS, I believe the keyboard is from 1992-1995.
>>
Anybody dealt with tech this old? Or is it beyond this board's generation.
>>
>>52085746
I converted one to ps2 and it didn't seem to work well. If i pressed too many keys it would not detect some of them. just search google for DIN to ps2 schematics
>>
>>52085613
AFAIK, you can't do it this easy. I know there are connectors PS/2 - > DIN to connect a new keyboard to your IBM PC, but not the other way around.
>>
>>52086824
>just search google for DIN to ps2 schematics
I tried this, but all I could find was DIN 5 and DIN 6
>>
>>52085613
Just let it go, man.
>>
>>52085613
Id suggest you to retrofit your keyboard with a USB controller yourself
>>
>>52086986
any links about doing this? I'm not scared to solder
>>
How is the cable connected to the keyboard?
Sometimes they're just plugged into the board and you can simply buy a different cable.
>>
>>52087002
does the mouse cable go to the keyboard and it's the one DIN connector?

flat, pin type connector, 10 pins with the last two pins disconnected

Picture is the most accurate example I could find in 30 seconds

Well give us more information about your keyboard. If its a popular one there might be a kit for it.
>>

>If i pressed too many keys it would not detect some of them.

... this is completely normal even on modern keyboards. Making it possible to press all keys simultaneously would require an expensive controller in the keyboard (you have to track the on/off state of 100+ keys).
>>
>>52087123
well I think some keyboads are different in which they detect at the same time and how many. I was trying to game with an old mechanical keyboard.

If it would be 5 pin then a PS2 adapter would be no problem. But this one seems like proprietary shit.

you may need to buy/solder/whatever XT-AT converter. If it's AT or you just have AT/XT switch somewhere on keyboard, simply solder pins in right order.

Fuck, i've never seen 8-pin DIN keyboard. Maybe it's from some crappy IBM XT clone?

there are adapters for the other way around but you get the point

or contact molex and see if they'll make a custom 10 pin board to 6 din mini cable for you.

It's some kinda military computer based on windows 95, runs off of a 24v power system. Has a battery, but I was not able to emulate the power supply, nor did it come with a HDD (thanks to uncle sam). When I disassembled it, all of the parts looked to be in pristine condition. It's got an intel pentium 1200, and the entire inside is based off motherboard/daughterboard (everything is veritical, connected by slot-type connections). Right now it's just an empty shell, but I still have all the parts.

this is not a standard AT/DIN connector. This one have also keyboard and trackball which uses a mouse protocol. AT/DIN doesnt support a mouse and PS2 need 2 connectors for kb+mouse.
>>
if you're lucky this junk uses a standard protocol with CLK and DATA for keyboard and CLK and DATA for trackball plus GND, V+. you can use a oscilloscope to figure it out and solder a passive adapter.

it is also possible to be a custom protocol and you'll need to crack it and use a micro-controller to translate the signals

anon ? are you still here ?
