Do you think that Apples decision to ditch the 3.5 mm headphone jack for the iphone 7 will ruin their phone business? Honestly it could why would you want to pay extra money to get a special adaptor for the lightning port to plug your headphones in? Bluetooth headphones are even more expensive. And isn't the main complaint about iPhone 5c/6/6s etc that the phones are too thin?
>>
>>52078251
Unless they're going to build a fucking DAC into the earbuds, it's still going to be an analog signal coming through the main connector, meaning it offers zero improvement over the current standard.

And this post is bait.
>>
>>52078251
99% of people only use the included headphones so I don't see why it would matter.
>>
they'll include an adapter
>>
>>52078281
>Unless they're going to build a fucking DAC into the earbuds
They are tho, that's what they tout as one of the advantages.
>>
>>52078294
What happens when that pair wears out?
>>
>>52078294
Not true.

These days 99% of normie faggots buy shitty overpriced beats to go along with their shitty overpriced phone.
>>
>>52078251
except they're not gonna ditch it. apple has traditionally played the safe game. they're not gonna stir the pot when they've got a good thing going
>>
>>52078251
No, you underestimate Apple Fags, you could make them pay $10 for a bottle of water with a mac logo and they'll buy it, even on mcjobs.

They think it gives them status. So no, if retards buy those fuck shit Dr. Dre Beats, I'm sure they'll be buying $200 earbuds with lightning connector.

If not, connector for the butthurt poorfags.
>>
>>52078251

Samsung ditched their bullshit proprietary connector on their old smartphones (Instinct S30 was the oldest one I had). Apple may eventually realize this to be a shitty business move as Samsung did.
>>
>>52078484
Easy. Pay $99 for a new pair and you're good to go.
>>
>>52078251
>lightening port
If it was USB type C I'd be in favor of it
>>
>>52078624
Lightning is superior to USB C tho, higher cycle count, higher data transfer speeds etc.
>>
>>52078251
>why would you want to pay extra money to get a special adaptor for the lightning port to plug your headphones in?
With apple it's not "Why would you" but "Why wouldn't you".
If apple changes it, people will buy the adaptors.
>>
>>52078638
Oh wait, I'm thinking of thunderbolt, my bad.
>>
>>52078514
That was old apple.
New apple puts a single connector on a laptop and sells cases with fucking bulges in the back so you can actually have 12 hours of battery life.
>>
>>52078251
Phone becomes even more uncomfortable to hold.
Smaller battery.
More protrusive camera bulge.
Bendgate 2.0
Proprietary headphones/connectors, $100 each.
Even shittier battery case.

And Apple will make soaring profits again, truly a cult of sheep.

What functionality would be lost if we switched the standard mini jack to a submini jack on smartphones?
>>
>>52078896
Power handling and physical strength.
>>
>>52078896
Oh, and also compatibility loss, of course.

But since we're in a thread about apple baiting the EU to fine them again, that's not that big of a concern.

>perpetuating the chauvinistic thrusting penis into vagina symbolism of the 3.5mm jack

To refer to plugs as “male” and sockets as “female” reinforces a hetero-normative culture where people can’t just decide what gender they are based on their feelings, Guys it makes me cry that I have to point this out. Wow, just wow. and need I mention that most tech fields are run by MEN? Of COURSE they would label the terms this way… they do such a good job at keeping women out of their offices that nobody like me was there to stop them! Guys, even our TECHNOLOGY perpetuates rape culture!1!1! It’s so deeply embedded that we don’t even stop to think about how widespread it is.
>>
>>52078624
USB C actually allows for analog output too, so you don't need a garbage DAC crammed into your shitty headphones
>>
Mfw huewei is talking about removing the jack on their phones now as well

Apple filed a patent for half height 3.5mm plugs so they'll probably put that on the iphone 7
>>
>>52078294
Until they get in a car.
Every iFag I've met always plugs their phone straight into their car's radio as soon as their parents unlock the doors.

I won't replace my car radio just to do that shit, why should some iBabies poor parents have to?
>>
>>52078743
Yeah, so you'll need to buy a new pair at the end of their lifetime. I.E. when they break.
>>
>>52082168
>can't plug it in both ways
If the whole Apple Fans v. USB plugs is anything to go by, they NEED reversible plugs for everything.
>>
>>52082168
So they'll make the 7 even thinner?
Enjoy 4 hour batter life.

phones going thinner than that is going to be problematic

It was a change for the best. It's imperative that they sacrifice common functions like battery life and standard audio Jacks for the sake of making the phone slimmer. Fat phones are ugly and stupid.

>99% of people only use the included headphones so I don't see why it would matter.
I'd say that number is closer to 20% - 40%, based on anecdotal personal observations

still a ridiculously high number

I don't care about the size of the jack. Thinner, thicker, just wish manufacturers would make shit that doesn't wear out so quickly. No matter how much I drop on headphones (I've only ever purchased earbuds), from literal $1 dollar store headphone to some $200 sennheiser (IE6, I think) buds, they've all worn out in less than a year, the cheaper ones usually much sooner, but still.

shit sounds fine when i bluetooth to my speakers across the room, but up close (at my desk, in the car) it sounds like absolute shit.
>>

one ear stops working, all the time, without fail. It works when the cord is held at a certain angle to the jack, and soon fails altogether. the ear changes from set to set, it's not always L or R. I now just buy $15 surplus cheap Xiaomi Pistons so I always have a set lying around, quality isn't great, but better than blowing hundreds of dollars on something that breaks.
>>
do phones really need to be thinner? I miss removable batteries and microSD slots
>>
>>52088443
sounds like you're a cord yanker

don't you find it odd that most other people don't have this problem?
>>
>>52078294
Used to. Not at all anymore after I got some nice bose. After hearing your favorite music in that quality it's very hard to downgrade. I notice nuances and pieces of the songs I can barely hear.

Also, the earpods are actually pretty nice, but they go bad within a couple-three months

>>
>>52082427
you can plug the usb cable in the usb port of the radio, iDiot®
>>
>>52088488

it's a reasonably common problem. you can buy replacement cables for e.g. sennheisers on/over ear headphones for a reason.
>>
>>52078251

it won't ruin their phone business... but it'll be great for headphone manufacturers and sales of another stupid apple dongle.

my issue with bluetooth would be pairing with multiple devices and managing charge.
>>
If they include bluetooth earbuds with them no one will care. It'd be a feature.

>>
>>52078251
Apple buyers will love it, the main thing about apple products is that it's expensive. Now they have more stuff to spend money on and to look down upon others because they are poorfags.

Only poorfags complain about the new iphones being thin, they could be thinner. That way only the really rich can afford one because they break every few days.
