GPT requires an extra partition. GPT is over complicated. MBR is simpler and keeps you in control. Lilo and MBR master race reporting in

file system really doesn't matter that much when its virtually a read only one. you only write to it when you repartition your disk which doesn't or shouldn't happen often.
GPT for increased reliability. MBR for backwards compatibility.
