Unless you are doing video editing, you don't need a ssd which dies in half a year.

Go back to school you illiterate fuck, if you can't spell, you sure as hell can't fucking comprehend the difference between a HDD and SSD.

Why would you buy an SSD which dies in half a year when you could get actually good ones which don't

Try 5-10 years. As opposed to an HDD which fails whenever it feels like it

With a load that would make data center drives cringe, was a good wakeupcall to how reliable SSd's are now a days.

Can I trust MLC SSD's guys? What about this cheap mini msata for my laptop? Safe buy?

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=141846928413&alt=web
>>
You don't have the slightest idea how many times your OS needs to access your drive for basic things like page faults. This shit takes forever in a mechanical drive, but a flash drive is way faster. Reliability is of no issue, Samsung is actually making enterprise MLC drives with three bits per cell, fucking TLC drives for the enterprise. It's only beginning, Seagate is going to get fucked if it doesn't adapt.
>>
Is there anyone here that uses only an SSD? I don't use very much storage and SSD are supposedly quieter and faster. Would you recommend it? (I'll have a backup drive of course in case something goes south)

SSD's are better for laptops especially if you are throwing it in a bag and riding a bike around town. No moving parts to get jacked when you are in Premium Rush mode.
>>
>>52059169
By half a year you mean half a century with extremely predictable failures.

INTEL MAKES BEST SSD

My Intel SSD has been kicking for 4 years straight, has went through 7 or more power outages and isn't corrupt.

My new samsung ssd died on me after 3 months and since then I stuck with intel.

the failure of a controller can make a SSD unusable. Reliability varies significantly across different SSD manufacturers and models with return rates reaching 40% for specific drives.[100] As of 2011 leading SSDs have ...SSD's in 2011 reached lower return rates than mechanical drives.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-state_drive#cite_note-behardware_2012-100

Many SSDs critically fail on power outages; a December 2013 survey of many SSDs found that only some of them are able to survive multiple power outages. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-state_drive#cite_note-139

I never understood this SSD hype. I owned 2 new laptops with SSD one from work and one personal. Never really felt any difference from my old hdd laptop maybe just 1 sec of loading time.

Holy fuck you manchildrens with your games, just fuck off to /v/
>>
>>52059169
I bought a shit teir used 60gb ssd, filled it 85%+, used it heavily, and almost 3years later a few smart errors showed. It still had warranty, so all i had to do was send my old one and i got a brand new one in the mail. And not a single problem with the 5other ssds in the household. So in my experience they are just as if not more reliable than hdds for daily use.

Most anyone can afford an SSD today. I think they're just being philistines because they formed their belief around this identity centered on supporting HDD. Kind of like the flat-earthers.

for obvious reasons get a 240/250GB SSD. It's better value these days.

The 850 EVO has good warranty and is good value.

TL:DR get a 250GB 850 EVO or maybe consider the 250GB BX100

I have forcefully turned off my PC many time and my samsung 840 pro is still fine
>>
>>52065995

why lol? the 950 pro is a consumer m.2 ssd with longer warranty and its actually better.

besides m.2 isnt all that great since real life benefits over sata6 isnt all that.

sure sequantial reads/writes is epic, but thats aboot it.

I have a old T60 Thinkpad

I slapped an SSD in it

With that change alone, everything is so much more responsive. Pages minimize and maximize faster, documents open and close faster, updates install faster. Dragon NaturallySpeaking now lags 0.5 seconds behind my speech instead of 3 or 4 seconds, which makes the program MUCH more usable.

I think it's counterintuitive but the older and more underpowered a machine is, the more an SSD will help it. The T60 only has a SATA 1.0 interface so it's not like the bandwidth will ever be that great, it's the seek times providing all my new benefits right?

They really are. My 840 evo from 3 years ago is still going hard. Gave it to my buddy but now run a PCI-E SSD. God I love technology.
>>
>not just backing up an image of your OS partition every now and then and just loading it onto a new SSD when the old one fails

>My SSD is almost 6 years old now and i am only going to be replacing it to get something bigger and faster.

Oh man is that the X25-V? I got that the first time too. The performance increase was great, but it stalled the entire system whenever it had to do a lot of writes (it only had a write speed of like 40mb/s)

Get a modern SSD, it'll make a gigantic difference - they can read+write at up to 500mbyte/s. I'm using the one I have to store all work related temporary data, it makes things insanely fast.
