Why not make an SSD out of RAM and use it as both the hard drive and the memory?
>>52052715
Just buy a bunch of ram and make a ramdisk, that's what I do for my swap space.
>>52052749
Is it possible to have a reverse RAM disk that uses a hard drive as if it were RAM?
>>52052715
Because RAM costs ~$10 per GB and ssds are <$1 per GB
Why not make a GPU out of CPUs and use it as both the graphics card and the processor?
>>52052809
It's called page file.
>>52052715
Because RAM losses data without power.

Why not make a cpu larger and use it as both the cpu and a frying pan?

>what is UPS
>>52052715
Most early desktop SSDs were exactly that, and they were mega-expensive.
>>52053273
You do realize that the motherboard doesn't get enough power to keep the data in RAM when the computer is turned off, even when plugged in, right? A UPS won't solve that at all. RAM disks have batteries to keep the data stored when the computer is off and the motherboard isn't powered.

More like 4$ per GiB, but the point still stands.
>>52052715
Most importantly, because RAM doesn't retain data when powered off and consumes substantial amounts of power in large quantities.
>>52052871
That actually doesn't sound too bad.
Kinda like an APU but in a cluster and the system smart switches each unit between a CPU and GPU.

>creating ramdisk to use it as swap
i dont even how retarded is that
>>52052809
Yes, that's what swapping is, and it's very slow.

That's reasonable. If you have some files you need to read or modify a lot, might as well keep them in memory. That's essentially what preload does.
>that's what I do for my swap space.
Swap space is used when you run out of memory. What you just said is, when your computer runs out of memory, write to the memory you set aside for when you run out of memory. Do you see why that doesn't make sense?
>>52053273
Google Nes Cartridge and read how it works -.-
>>52056956
>Do you see why that doesn't make sense?
I mean it's useless, but I guess it technically could work

>Do you see why that doesn't make sense?
no
>>52058942
You have one big room that's slowly filling up with people over time. You basically decided to put a divider up in the middle, and designate one half of the room as "only to be used when the other half is completely full".
>>52052715
They only thought of this like eight years ago.
>>52059379
if the motherboard doesn't support more than a certain number of cards, it kind of makes sense
>>52059558
Only in that situation, yes.
