The current state of AMD Radeon graphics is that they have far less budget to play with than NVidia but release more open sourcey stuff than NVidia.

So you get nerds who like the more open stuff and enjoy the required tinkering to get great graphics.

And of course you appear to get more idiots as NVidia 'just werks' more of the time so idiots who buy NVidia are silent, whereas idiots who buy AMD come to the internet for help.
