On an unrooted (but rootable) device of mine, I logged into Snapchat, rooted, installed https://f-droid.org/app/fr.simon.marquis.preferencesmanager , and transfered the data of com.snapchat.android_preferences.xml via GDocs to my already rooted device. If you're talking about task killers, then you don't need one. Android handles background apps just fine. Use Greenify and BootManger for problematic apps.

There aren't any root methods that cover all Android devices. Here's what I suggest. Search for "XDA (device name) root (guide/tutorial/how to)" and find a thread that is stickied or has a good amount of replies that verify it works. Make sure it's for the exact model.
